This seems very confusing to me. What is a person supposed to think when they get a stamp that says 'authorized to work'? Aside from that it went through E-Verify and we discussed it with a senior staff member from USCIS. If it wasn't legal, I'm thinking it wouldn't have come back as authorized to work on E-Verify or the senior USCIS agent would have said something. Aside from that, wouldn't CBP be in trouble for issuing misleading documents by now? I'm thinking hundreds of people must use these temp EADs every year. That's like the Dept. of Labor handing out driving licenses and then someone gets pulled over for not having a license from the local Dept. of Motor Vehicles. USCIS is always claiming that E-Verify is the end all for proving someone's right to work. I'm thinking if someone is approved, that's it.

11/10/09 - K1 NOA1 date
4/22/10 - NOA2 mailed
7/21/10 - interview
8/27/10 - arrival in US
9/4/10 - wedding
10/2/10 - sent off AoS pack
12/27/10 - GC interview (approved)
10/09/12 - mailed application I-751
10/11/12 - NOA for I-175

4/23/13 - I-175 approved

I agree it's very confusing and misleading. And no doubt a lot of JFK entrants do work, through either employer or e-verify mistakes. But having read all about the issue on VJ I wouldn't risk it. My husband didn't do customs in JFK, so it's a non-issue, but if he had, and had gotten the stamp, I wouldn't have let him work on it.

But, since your husband has already done it, and is probably close to getting his EAD anyway, I can't say what decision I'd make in that situation.

I'm the USC petitioner.

Since my husband didn't POE at JFK, I don't know what kind of verification they put you through, but I agree. It's very misleading.

I'm pretty sure I read on VJ that you are forgiven if you actually work during the AOS process and don't have an EAD yet. Of course, I can't cite my source at the moment.

Hi !!

Do we get an email notification when we have our biometric appointment scheduled? (Or just a letter in the mail).

I remember a phone number to keep in touch with the Dept. of State during our K1 visa, is there also a number to keep handy should we would like to know what is going on with AOS?

Thanks!

You only get a letter in the mail. I've never heard of anyone getting an email notification - not even a change to your online case status.

I'd guess your letter should be coming through pretty soon, I'd say. It took about a month from our filing date for us to get ours. If you want to call USCIS, there should be a customer service line number on your NOA. I would list it out for you here, but I don't have it on me.

Hey, we got ours yesterday as well  But it's not scheduled until 11/29/10. It's a little while away, and our local office (Naperville, IL) doesn't seem to tolerate walk-ins. We might try going to a Chicago location or just wait for our date. Just happy to have our letter for now, anyway :star:

I got my biometrics appointment letter in the mail on Saturday November 6, no email, no txt msg, just the letter on the mail. It is also scheduled for 11/29/2010...probably they are very busy at the Raleigh office. I trying to figure out if walk-ins are allowed or not at this office...

How is the process looking after the biometrics?

Couple of touches and eventually a rather long wait we should hear something?

Hopefully, no RFE :)
