Whitman admits using undocumented immigrant as housekeeper

Reporting from San Jose and Los Angeles — California Republican gubernatorial nominee Meg Whitman acknowledged Wednesday that she paid an undocumented worker to clean her residence and provide other services in her home for nine years but insisted that she had been unaware of the woman's immigration status.

Whitman, who has vowed to crack down on illegal immigration, said her family hired Nicandra Diaz Santillan through an employment agency to which Diaz Santillan had provided documentation suggesting she was an American citizen. Whitman said Diaz Santillan showed her a copy of her Social Security card and California driver's license, and campaign officials distributed those documents to the media.

Whitman said she fired Diaz Santillan in June 2009 after the woman revealed that she was living in the country illegally.

I really don't see how this story merits any mention. Despite my feelings about Whitman's political acumen, I don't think she did anything wrong here. The woman deceived the employment agency and Whitman by providing falsified documents to gain and retain her employment. She was subsequently fired when she told the truth. I fail to see anything that Whitman did wrong here.

As soon as I saw Gloria Allred, I thought enough said. Lady has about the same credibility as Bill Ayers. On top of that, she is a backer of the Democrat campaign.

Ironically people like Allred, are first to speak out against modernizing things like the SSC.

I generally will agree with you regarding Allred. She's a bottom feeding, self-promoter who likes to see her face on t.v.. However, if as is indicated in a story I read, she does have proof that Whitman knew she was an illegal immigrant and continued to employ her for 5 years, that changes things a bit. From what I read, there was a letter sent from the social security administration warning Whitman that the social security number that her maid was using did not match up with the name given and that there was potentially impropriety afoot.

Did you even read the snip of the article posted in the OP? The woman had falsified documents that showed that she was a citizen. It wasn't until 2003 or 2008 that she was identified as being an illegal immigrant, depending on whom you believe.

It's a little coincidental that an illegal alien comes out now and can afford Allred.

I also find it hard to believe that someone like Whitman, would need to save a dime and use the services of an illegal.

I honestly don't doubt that it is possible that she hired an illegal alien on accident and kept her employed even after finding it out. She probably fired her in 2008 when she realized she wanted to run for office. The woman now is only coming forward because she knows she can make money off interviews. Allred does this sort of stuff pro-bono because it's free advertising. She takes other cases and charges people through the nose.

1) Why is the housekeeper not in ICE's custody right now, with removal proceedings initiated?

2) Why is billionaire Whitman not slapped with a $500,000 fine?

The answer to question #1 is that Obama has chosen to refused to enforce our long standing immigration laws in favor of amnesty first. Any illegal alien encountered by ICE is released unless they have committed a serious felony. Apparently committing perjury on a federal I-9, document fraud, and identity theft is not considered serious enough by these idiots to qualify for arrest and deportation. This woman would have to murder or commit child rape in order to be deported under Obama guidlines. Sad and idiotic, but true. Want change in this regard? Get rid of Obama and his ilk in 2010 & 2012.

The answer to #2 is that Whitman was was not culpable at all in this. She went through an agency that was similarly duped by the fraud this woman committed. They all followed current law. This illegal alien did not. Want change in this regard? See above answer and elect people that are not for illegal alien amnesty and are willing to make E-Verify mandatory nationwide. 1. Seems to fly in the face [contradict] of the bullcrap that crackdowns are increasing. This illegal is parading herself and status on national televisions.

2. Why would anyone wealthy try to save a few bucks by hiring an illegal alien? Sounds like a case of the economy for illegals has dried up and she has no job, therefore, she is doing what most in her case do in the US, exploit the media spotlight.

I thought these Illegals were all working for below minimum wage and here when we look at a common House cleaner we see she is making close to 25. an hour.... while she is learning English.

We can also see nearly her whole family has Come to America.
