What is SAVE database? and why should one apply if he/she is not visible in SAVE?

SAVE database will be updated in 15 working days after POE. That's 3 calendar weeks. That's why I told you to hold 3 weeks after POE.

It is nothing but the POE information transmission to process the SSN.

Make sure you ask the SSN guy to look you up on the SAVE database. If they don't find you on SAVE, then don't submit your form. Tear it and come back home. Go back in another week and ask to be found on SAVE. If you can't be found, don't apply. You only want to do it after you are visible on SAVE database.

SAVE database is basically a giant excel spreadsheet (probably a RDB) that's used by USCIS to share immigration data with other gubmit agencies like SSA. SSA is supposed to only offer SSN to people who are in SAVE DB, essentially legal resident of America. If you apply for a SSN before you're in SAVE, you might either get a denial or you might get assign a SSN. Then USCIS requests another one. Now you have two SSN's and you have problem. So wait 3 weeks before going to SSN office. If they find you in SAVE, apply for the the SSN and get the number right there and then.

Question regarding DS-230,

One of my buddy's friend asked me, if i know how to save DS-230 data sheet. According to NVC Web version, you cannot save data and only can do print. Is there any source he can use to save DS-230 data without print version?

Thanks Folks!

What you want to do is download Foxit Reader from http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/reader/.

You can fill out any PDF using this application. You can change the font size, color, type, etc. You never have to say, "Gosh darn it, I ran out of space on this little box to type my long a55 Indian name." You can just reduce the font size and fit your mile-long name in the box. Once you are done, you can save the PDF with your data. Even if originally the PDF was un-save-able. You can edit the saved data more and save again later or print. Another thing you can do is install a PDF printer on your computer. Download PDFCreator from here http://sourceforge.net/projects/pdfcreator/ Once you are done entering data on your PDF, you simply print your document. But instead of selecting your printer, select PDFCreator. You will get a dialog box to save your PDF where ever you want to save it. And there you have it, friends.

Yes, MB. This is one method suggested by Indigo.

There are many PDF printer drivers online for free. I have used BULLZIP PDF writer and Primo PDF writer.

Ok, Malvika, good! Keep in touch with them!

BTW, I got Federal refund into the bank today - direct deposit.

Loto

That was fast! I just got my W2!!! Tell me, Loto...I have an appt with my accountant on 2/15. I'm due a refund so I want to file my taxes early. But Seyi doesn't get here until 2/25 and probably won't get his SS# for a few weeks after that. How can I file married if he doesn't have any SS# yet?

Can I still file as single, head of household like I always do? Why does the IRS have to know that we got married in 2010? I just don't want any delays in getting my refund!

Deb,

From the year, you are married, you need to file Married Filing Jointly (MFJ) or Married Filing Separately (MFS). Single or HOH does not apply to you.

To get max. refund (in other words, to owe less to Federal and State), you need to do MFJ.

Now you have 2 options:

1) If you want the refund faster, Seyi needs ITIN (Individual Tax Identification Number) to process your return

2) If you wait until he gets SSN, it is straightforward process, but the refund will be delayed.

Please let me know which on you like?

Now onwards it is important to show filing as married. Otherwise, it may be questioned at the time of Seyi's Naturalization. And it might fall under "Good Moral Character" of the naturalization.

Lighter Note: In fact, I am still waiting for my W-2  I tooks all year end numbers from last year's last paycheck and took all other info from 2009 W-2 and created my own to e-file the taxes :star:
