IS,

Was your dad filed as electronically? If he does, you need to do amended tax return which you may file after April 14th.

Yeah. Both of them were filed electronically. If I try to correct the tax return for my dead, it comes back as saying my sister has been already claimed by someone else. So do you think I need to do two things:

a) File an amendment for my sister saying she could be claimed by someone else.

b) File an amendment for my father claiming my sister.

Do b only if a is accepted. It's $1,500. If I could get it back for my father, he'd be rather happy.

PS: I just found out there's $19.78 left on my T-Mobile VISA gift card. I was thinking I'd have only a few pennies left. I'm pleasantly surprised and tonight I DINE.

Loto,

You made it very early man, good. We haven't received our W2 yet and I want to do my return ASAP.

Is there anyway that you could find if TaxAct accepts ITIN for spouse instead of SS# for MFJ? I wanna do my tax soon.

I didn't get W-2, Malvika. It was a crooked way of filing tax return. From the last pay check of 2010, I derived all the numbers. From 2009 W-2, I collected their key information. And then, made my own W-2 as if it is the real W-2  I wanted the money soon for upcoming expenses. Normally, W-2 arrives before the end of Jan.

Re:ITIN - For the first time, tax software will not accept it. What you can do is, complete your return using TaxAct or any other software. Print it out (don't e-file) and along with your lovely wife's W-7 and supporting docs, mail to Austin, Texas address. To get refund, it might take between 6 to 8 weeks. This is what I did for the year 2007 with my wife and it still holds true.

Ok. Maybe you guys can help about this tax dilemma.

My father can claim my youngest sister on his taxes and get a good refund out it. In summer of 2009, she worked at a summer school and got paid $600 and paid $49 tax. She was so excited that she earned money and paid taxes. She filed tax return even when she didn't have to. One of the question on the tax form is can anyone else claim you as a dependent. She should have clicked yes by she clicked no. She tax return was accepted and she got her $49 back. A few days later my father filed his and tried to claim her. But he couldn't. Because she already claimed herself. Now my father got $1,500 less in refund. Is there any way to correct this problem. MB, could you ask the Madrasi 'bout this? Thanks.

Anyone else, thoughts?

IS,

http://taxes.about.com/od/taxtrouble/a/form1040X.htm

Amended return can be filed to correct many problems. But your situation is bit tricky, because your sister has to return the refund she received or adjusted and basically nullifying her return. Let's hear how MB's accountant comes back with the solution. It should be possible, but little tricky, IMO.

my gut instinct says March will def bring good news 4 u

Taxes r pain in neck no one from my family has received their W2 yet. btw, is it possible tht my husband be asked for 2010 W2 in his interview?

786india,

If you get W-2 before his interview, just mail a copy of it to your hubby. CO may or may not ask for it. However, it is best idea to provide all 2010 pay statements (or just the last one, if it has cumulative total) and all 2011 pay stubs.

Good luck to your hubby's upcoming interview

No No No, If you have ITIN received last year, please don't apply it again. I just confused your wife don't have ITIN.

Now, what you can do it, just enter this ITIN in online software and e-file.

2 cases

1) If e-file is accepted, you are all set

2) If it is not, it will be denied and ask you to correct the error. So, wait until your wife comes here and get SSN. Then enter SSN and re-transmit.

Very simple!
