NVC is closed AGAIN!! :crying:

I swear, this last month of waiting has been worse than the whole last year! Why is that?? I swear, this process has made me age at LEAST 10 year! LOL....and of course I am excited to travel to see hubby, but I have to listen to my mom say that she HATES when I travel, and that I am making her a nervous wreck...Dad is worried too, but he is excited I get to go to another country! Ugh, feeling guilty/ecstatic is a shi±±y feeling!!

I expected at least 3 to 6 inches snow from yesterday night. But today is mostly sunny in my area. So, my plan to make a snow man is completely screwed up! So, what would I do during my this free slot? Only thing I can do is just to pray, please bring the weekend so fast! But, I heard some people who are still in NVC hate weekends! So, for them, I pray again to bring Monday so fast

Yeah. I noticed that on the first paycheck of the year. I don't take any exemptions. So I never have to owe IRS. Instead I get some back. It's kind of like a saving plan for me.

Loto - Congrats on receiving green green card, your IJ is officially over now

Tany n Binny - It's sad that NVC is closed today due to inclement weather (I believe) in NH. As Loto said I used to hate weekends and holidays more than anything when I was waiting for my case completion with NVC. I used to be so glad when it was Monday Morning. But things have changed and again I have started waiting for weekend with full of joys and I am sure you guys will soon be having the same stage.......Be Patient

Deb,

Some smaller airports will have fewer lines.

But, JFK has separate boards and queues for Citizens, GC holders and Visitors. Probably, when the officers are less, they may not open all the lines

When we landed this time, one guy was routing GC holders to use one line and Citizens to another. Since, we all came together, we asked him to be together. So, he allowed my wife to use citizen's line. I don't think it is a big deal if it is GC or Citizen line

I exactly calculate the tax for new year in my spreadsheet and withhold exactly - so no refund and owe But, in the past, I have used your techniques!

Still my current paycheck cut is 6.2%. Anyway, it will come back by the end of the year.

Offtopic - Another good news is AMT is relaxed again for this year and next year. If it starts biting, all deductions will be useless

I am in need of a suggestion here.

I have been filing my tax past three years as "Married Filling Jointly" through one of the CPA in my area. I have my wife's ITIN # from last year. As you all know that a visa interview has been scheduled for Feb 15 and as soon as she receives her passport back with visa she will be flying for USA within a week. Again I also hope that she will have her SS # sometimes before April 15.

This year I am trying not to pay $100 to CPA and want to do my tax "Married filling jointly" electronically using one of the Tax software available in the market.

My questions are :-

1. Can I use ITIN for my wife in electronic filling or do I need to have SS #?

2. Using ITIN instead of SS makes any difference? specially in return?

3. Should I go ahead and do it using her ITIN or should I wait until she has her SS# sometimes in March?

4. If so which tax software is reliable and user friendly?

4. TurboTax is good. HR blocks TaxCut is also go. But if you're paying for any of it, then they aren't good. You should do your taxes yourself and for free. There is great joy in being able to do your own tax.

The reason I choose CPA to do my taxes is I was not aware of the fact that I could do "Married filling jointly" even my spouse is abroad. He (CPA) is the one who advised me that it's possible and he will take care of it. Since I was so excited to know that I will have much more refund than filling "single" I simply agreed to spend $100 for CPA charge. Now I realize that I could do that myself and save $100.

I use TaxAct to file my taxes. I used to pay CPA and stopped the moment I could do it myself.

@IS can the link do itemized deduction? I'm aware that the IRS has some programming to do before it's released.
