I've seen no options on the various travel sites for booking a flight for me to the country of my wife, and return together to the US. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Book a round trip, and then take note of your return flight number, then buy her a one way on that same flight number???

If you do it back to back, and you select seats, you could even sit together.

I guess I don't understand what your concern/trouble is...Is it checking in? You can go to the counter together and just tell the check-in person both of your locator numbers etc.....

Thats the problem. on orbitz, expedia, and so on, the return flights are never available for one way travel. I even called expedia and got the same answer. After they are finished working out something to get us on the same flight, the price has jumped about 1k. Its ridiculous. I don't know why the option is not available when booking a flight. just simply select 2 passengers returning.

Oh, I understand, you're trying to take advantage of the price difference between 1 way and 2 way by booking two round trip US-PI-US tickets. The trouble is that if your wife doesn't take the US -> PI portion of the trip, her PI->US portion gets canceled.

So, there is a fix for that. You just book her round trip PI-US-PI with that first leg being the same as your PI-US return leg. As she's coming in on a CR-1/IR-1 visa, you hopefully don't need to worry about that return ticket coming back to bite you...When she's in the US just cancel the return trip, or even better, schedule it out for her first trip back home - over xmas or easter?

O you...When she's in the US just cancel the return trip, or even better, schedule it out for her first trip back home - over xmas or easter?

That is what I am planning to do. Book the return trip 5-6 months out (the max allowed) & extend it if needed.

Also I do not book on any of the travel search engines or TA (I only use them for price comparison)- I always book directly via the airline (tel or online) & as soon as I get confirmation - I choose my seat (s).

Also, depending on when/where you travel, you can get a RT ticket for almost the same price as a one way ticket. Check some of the various airlines sites, see if they have any "special" fare going on.

I did exactly that. R/T tickets are usually cheaper (400+ in our case) so I booked PI-USA-PI then canceled the return part once we arrived home. After I bought, I was able to choose our seats together. No one asked or even seemed to notice the return portion in customs/immigration.

There is a problem still with getting booked on the same flight as my wife. I think I must find a travel agent or work with one airline. the only way I've seen is for me to book a one way flight there and then two 1 way flights back. The price jumps big time by doing it this way but I don't have many choices.

Here is how I do it:

Check the flight and seat availability for your R/T and the return trip for your spouse. This will likely have to be done on the airline website or one the phone with an airline agent. Once you establish that there is availability on the return for your spouse then book your R/T (airline, Orbitz, whomever). Then book the flight for your spouse.
