Hi there.

I am from Alberta Canada and I know that the US Consolate in Montreal process all US Immigrant Interview. My question is Is anybody here from Canada have requested that the interview be transfered to the closest US consolate which is closest to thier address. Like for example Calgary is the closest from Edmonton? So would they do that interview in calgary instead of Montreal? Please let me know?

Prior to 1986 (I know my sister's 1985 interview was done in Calgary), it was possible. Sometime between then and 1999 (my own EB-3 IV interview, 1999/12/13--from a TN-1), State Department decided to "consolidate" all IV interviews at Montreal.

You can request it, but it won't be granted--you will have to "bite bullet" and make the trip to Montreal.

I'm fairly certain they do,lol! At 1 time many years ago, I belive other consulates offered more services, but like many things, they increase the fees and cut back on services!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Some filers decide to travel to Montreal early and combine the medical and interview in the same week. Saves travel to Vancouver but there is the added accommodation costs in Montreal. Either way it is inconvenient but unfortunately that's the way it is.

We all feel your pain as we have all had to do the exact same thing.

Unfortunately like the others have said, that's just how it is and we all have to suck it up.

You are more then welcome to try and move it, however, do you really want to "rock the boat" on your case?

Like the previous poster said, some people just combo their trip and get the medical done right before the interview.

Just make sure you give yourself the 2-3 day turn around time from the medical.

There is a thread on reviews from some of the Montreal accomodations, as well as the different medical office visits.

Good luck =)

There is a simple (non)solution to it--make a week-plus trip to Montreal and have the medical there (essentially what I did in 1999).
