It depends on the situation. Individuals have no reason to participate in vigilante justice for the punishment's sake. That is, if the murderer did not pose a reasonable future threat you can't justify killing him. God will punish him.

But if you fear that the murderer poses a threat to others and are killing for the purpose of protection of others, not solely to punish the murderer, then you can be justified in that.

I disagree with those that are discussing asking for forgiveness. Doing something with the intention of asking for forgiveness later is highly hypocritical. Moreover, even if God forgives you it doesn't mean that what you did wasn't wrong.

But the thread title suggests some sort of vigilante justice. I think god would be angry.

I also agree. I wouldn't do a premeditated murder and just think it's ok because I will ask for forgiveness. But certain situations that come to mind, the kind where a child is killed in a disgusting way, I mean as a parent I am sure the first thought is to kill that person. Obviously that doesn't usually happen, and there is a judicial system to handle the crime(tho sadly they keep releasing creeps who repeat offenses). I can see someone killing a murderer in the spur of the moment in those kind of situations.

If the murder was premeditated and you never showed remorse, God would be angry (example, 1988 killing of Zia ul-Haq1 by Aslam Beg--Beg still will go to the Lake Of Fire2)

  1. Zia was a 1971 war-criminal (in charge of Comilla District), and also had judicially murdered his benefactor/protector Z.A. Bhutto (transferred in August to West Pakistan in reshuffle)
  2. Beg himself is an unindicted (and unremorseful) 1971 war-criminal (coincidentally, Comilla District--NOT transferred, was also POW as of 1971/12/16)

If someone killed my child (or even my neighbors) and I was certain he did it and he got off on technicality..... what would be wrong with cutting his throat myself to administer Justice?

The laws against murder and the remedy for it are a lot more clear and pronounced in scripture than are the admonitions to obey every law of government no matter what that Government might be.

You're starting to sound like Palin and Huckabee with that ####### about the laws of god are easier to follow than that of the government.

Get it right.

I said nothing about any laws being "easier to follow" and my comments are in the context of-What would God do, it's not a civics debate.

*I take note how the "unreligious" are always compelled to wade into the topics of Religion.

I may joke about religion, but I am in fact religious, Maybe not to your standards, but I do go to mass and I do believe in God. However, I am strictly secular when it comes to government.

You may not have directly said that, but it is implied. You're not that slick danno.

I guess it would depend if in an 'alleged' God's eyes if murder was actually 'wrong.'
