Conservatives take power in New Brunswick

OTTAWA (Reuters) – Progressive Conservatives easily won an election in New Brunswick, helped by public anger over a botched bid to sell off power generating facilities, results showed on Tuesday.

The Progressive Conservatives, led by David Alward, won 42 seats in the 55-seat provincial assembly in Monday's vote while the outgoing Liberals took just 13 seats.

The Liberals never recovered from the surprise announcement last year that they would sell much of the province's power generating facilities to neighboring Quebec. Amid public protests the deal was first scaled back and then ditched.

Outgoing premier Shawn Graham had argued the power deal would help tackle the province's spiraling debt, which is now around $8.4 billion. New Brunswick has a population of just over 750,000 people.

:rofl: my county in new jersey has more people than that. that's pathetic.
Wait till you see the Territories (Nunavut, Yukon, NWT)--their COMBINED population doesn't come up to even half that (in combined area half that of lower-48). :lol:
