Hi

i dont know if this is the right place to post this. My fiance petitioner lives in MA but he is in Maryland now because of work. We are wondering if we can choose Dulles, Washington DC as my POE when i come to US for the first time so it would be convenient for him to just drive or should i land in MA as my petitioner lives in MA?

Any help from members with similar experience or knowledge would be much appreciated. thank you.

As Midge said, many airports don't have the facility for being a POE and I would guess Maryland's airports don't. You would probably have to come through one of the major cities anyway so Dulles works as well as any.

Yes, you can choose Dulles when booking--but why Dulles instead of BWI?

To amplify, every single international airport in the United States [and Canada, for that matter - any Canadian international airport with commercial flights to the US has a US CBP Customs and Immigration section, and if your flight changes planes in Canada, you will clear US Customs and Immigration in the Canadian airport before you board the final leg of your flight to the US] is a valid CBP PoE, and it does not matter at all which one you use. You can enter the US through any international airport you choose, no matter where you intend to eventually live in the US.

Every commercial airport can become a POE, legally. If you tell your pilot that you want your corporate Lear jet to land in Podunk Holler, Nebraska, or Omaha, where Mr. Buffet lives, they just request an CBP officer to be there.

Do you seriously think that if a wealthy American flies internationally, which they do quite a lot, they always add $8K in landing fees and an hour to their trip, just to "stop by" a major airport?

Not so. They do customs and border stuff right where they take off and where they land.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans.
