Hi, wrumug.

A certified copy of a birth certificate or marriage certificate is a duplicate generated by the office that originally issued it, with has a raised seal or special stamp that essentially proves it is genuine. You need to contact the offices that originally produced these forms for you and your spouse. For a US marriage, this would probably be the city clerk for the location where the marriage license was issued, and for a US birth certificate it would be the state health department/department of vital records for the state of birth. You would have to find out what the equivalent issuing authority would be for the other country(ies) involved.

Expect as long as a 4 to 6 week wait for copies by mail unless you are willing to pay to have them expedited, but if it's even remotely convenient you can often go to any of these offices yourself and have certified copies in hand within an hour (call first to verify this!). You will almost certainly pay at least some fee for the copy, regardless of how you acquire them. I hope this helps.

Good luck,

Bob

Congratulations for the case number. You can check the NVC General Information from the NVC Forum which talks about in details what documents you will need to submit to NVC. It depends on the US Embassy/Consulate of the particular country. It will be clear to you once you read the NVC General Information.

I-130 Timeline with USCIS:

It took 92 days for I-130 to get approved from the filing date

NVC Process of I-130:

It took 78 days to complete the NVC process

Interview Process at The U.S. Embassy

Interview took 223 days from the I-130 filing date. Immigrant Visa was issued right after the interview

Click on the appropriate link for what is required. If the top link does not apply to the country of the applicant/beneficiary, then you are only required to submit part I along with a photocopy of the biographics page of the passport

Instructions for Immigrant Visa Applicants (applying in Albania, Canada, Lebanon, Philippines, Turkey, United Arab Emirates or on the continent of Africa)

When one is required to submit both parts 1 & II and all documents listed in the above link, the NVC reviews all documents and schedules the interview. Part 1 should only be signed not part II as that has to be signed at the interview stage in front of the conof.

Instructions for Immigrant Visa Applicants (NOT applying in Albania, Canada, Lebanon, Philippines, Turkey, United Arab Emirates or on the continent of Africa)

When one is only required to submit DS-230 part 1 and a copy of the biographics page of the passport, the consulate will schedule the interview.

If you are required to send birth certificate etc to the NVC along with parts I & II of the DS-230, this is what it states.....

Documents You Need to Obtain and Submit

Document requirements

Please obtain the original documents or certified copies from an appropriate

authority (the issuing entity) for yourself and each family member who will

accompany you to the United States. All documents that pertain to your

petition are required, even if they were previously submitted to the CIS with

your petition.

Birth certificates

Submit the original, or certified copy, of the birth record of each family

member (yourself, your spouse, and all unmarried children under the age of

21).

The certificate must contain the:

• Person’s date of birth

• Person’s place of birth

• Names of both parents, and

• Annotation by the appropriate authority indicating that it is an extract from

the official records
