I recently filed I-129F to bring my finacee here to get married. Before sending the packet, I did not see anything in the instructions saying I needed to send a certified copy of the divorce decree. I send in an uncertified copy. Now I'm wondering if I made a mistake by doing this. Will they reject my petition or now have to send an RFE? Is there anything I can do now to not delay the process? Thanks.

usually, its a photocopy OF the certified copy, showing stamps/seals/clerks signatures (whatever certifies it).

Without showing a seal, expect an RFE, later. Usually.

Must show the certified copy on interview day, though - don't forget that one.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

For the beneficiary maybe, but rarely for the petitioner

YMMV

Your copies will be fine for the petition but for your beneficiary they will ask for certified or notarised copy at interview.

Even though my now husband sent in his copies beiing the petitioner but when it came to my interview in Australia they said they were missing one and wanted a certified copy so we had to run around and get it sent over to me quickly. Always a good idea to get a few notarised just in case.

Divorced !st November 2012.

Married only 2 years 1 month

We just sent photocopies of a certified copy, and the London Embassy didn't even ask to see a certified copy at the interview. We sent in copies of everything, including a scanned copy of his Letter of Intent to Marry, instead of an original. The only originals I included were the actual forms. We flew through it no problems.
