Soo we are in the processing of getting paperwork ready for the NVC stage, and my husband is obtaining his birth certificate. We went to the hospital he was born at in Toronto today, and the lady at the health records office said all hospitals don't keep records after 20 yrs, which was weird. Anyways she told us we have to get it at the service ontairo website, and order the "long birth certificate" off there. The website says "You may apply for a birth certificate, a certified copy of birth registration or a search." but I'm not sure which one the NVC needs....I'm thinking the certified copy of birth registration.

Anyone know? ThankYou! :star:

under birth certificate there is options, short form or long form. You need a long form.

Make sure all the info is correct and all the info is filled in or it will take months to get it and they are HORRIBLE with corrospondance if there is an issue with any info on the form thats filled out.

I agree with Inky said. We ordered my husbands and after two weeks they sent it back saying not enough info and made us refil out the forms. Which we did and sent back it then took another 3 weeks to get the thing back. It seemed like it took forever and a ton of phone calls. Good luck.

PS if your case is cut and dry I wouldnt pay for the expidited bc they get it to people that quickly if its cut and dry.

When we filed our I130 and my husband (the canadian citizen) only had his short form birth certificate and they insisted we get the long form. It will have parents names and birth info on it.

Ughhh I'm so mad ....We already messed up on the online request way. We were into filling it out then it asked for a guarnator.....I accidently hit the guarnator dosen't know or approve we are submitting them. Then got all the way to the end and after my husband paid, it said you must mail in a letter of explanation, and find a alternate guarnator, and photocopy passport. jeez louise !!! :star: I want to call them tom and try to settle it!

It just depends on what you request when you register your children's birth or later when requesting replacements. I requested both the long-form and wallet sized certificates when I registered my sons' births (but I'm going back quite awhile now :) )

Only got the small form birth certificate, where I lived you have to order the long form.

The only one my parents got when registering my birth was the small card.
