No I don't believe in an after life. When you die there isn't a "soul" that leaves your body and teleports to Heaven's Gates where your soul hasa 1 on 1 meeting with God. He doesn't review your "case" and decide whether to let your soul into Heaven or send you to Hell (a place so horrible it makes Hitler look like a wonderful angel).

Sounds like something out of a sci-fi movie. Also is a fear mongering tactic to keep people believing in God so that they avoid Hell...

Yes...I believe in heaven and hell. And here comes the controversial part for me...I know the bible says hell was created for the devil and demons. I don't believe in a purgatory type of place, but sometimes I do wonder if everyone gets a last chance even when they die. Like a little meeting with Jesus.

Well...you guys can probably imagine that I do believe in an eternal afterlife. Personally, I do believe in a Purgatory prior to that eternal life. I remember when I was a young kid, 8 or 10 years old, and I heard that if you sin you don't go to Heaven. That really scared me to death...I stepped carefully trying not to sin (I didn't really understand the forgiveness aspect of God at that time...in fact I was scared of Him!). So, as a kid I was under the impression that if I sinned even only one time that I would go straight to hell! :crying: But soon after that I heard of the Catholic idea of Purgatory and that brought so much peace and perspective into my life. I have loved the thought of Purgatory ever since then...because it just gives me so much relief. Plus, I'm sure that I'll need one more 'washing away' of my sins prior to going to life eternal. Even after forgiveness, I'll still have quite a sin stain on me (most likely :innocent: ).

As an adult who is interested in the polemics of religion, I also find quite a 'sense of inner peace' in the way that the Catholic theology of Purgatory jives with the ancient Eastern religions theologies of reincarnation. In Easetern philosophy, reincarnation is a chance to continuously refine yourself over multiple lifetimees until you are purged of all impurities and at that point you will never be reborn again, you will have defeated death. With Purgatory, it is the same concept, a final opportunity for 'purging' of yourself before you enter enternity. We can't define Purgatory, but in all reality, I could be in Purgatory now...paying for past life sins...which is also a thought that brings me closer to God.

Its hard to explain...but I gave it a quick shot :star::blush::star:

Close enough. Being a Catholic is to live in Purgatory.

might be one but i can't imagine what it would be like. are all the broken families going to know each other or would it be a place where we start over, i wonder.

brought to the world by the USA... step grandmother, step brother, half sister, step father, step sister, step mother, ...... oh and then new step mother because the original step mother is gone so can have a new step grandmother and grandfather with a new step mother... so cool! so proud of the USA.

Life..... Nobody gets out alive.

I pretty much have believed the same thing and know that my stop may take awhile to cleanse me. I am trying to make my stay there shorter than need be by behaving now as I have a beautiful wife that I love a lot and she expects me to be with her in heaven. I know she is patient and will wait for me and I expect her to stop by and look in and say something to me like, "OK hurry up and I will make that favorite meal of yours when you are done playing," and walk away as she is perfect in every way and will spend no time there. I expect her to be there at the exit and ask me, "what took so long now come one."

I will refrain from smacking her on the but t t and hear her giggle as I am not sure that is a sin but just in case.good.gif

So then do you believe in an after after life? :P

Don't be ridiculous. ;)

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

No, I do not believe there is an afterlife in the sense that the thoughts I have as the person I am now will have some existence once my physical body dies. I do not find that thought scary or depressing either. I am scared of the process of dying though, well depending on how it happens, it is not always a hard and painful process, but it can be obviously. Needless to say I am hoping to put it off as long as possible. Life is an amazing, incredible journey and I am not ready to end it yet - I am not sure if we are ever 'ready' in that sense but if physical suffering drains the pleasure away, I expect at that point one might well wish to end it.

I do hope that I go through the purgatory thing and finish before my babe gets to come. I can visualize them showing my sins as the audience watches and after each sin the punishment comes. If my babe is there I just know she will be telling them, "He did that? Hit him harder, make that fire and brimstone hotter, let me do it and I will show you how." She will be all nice and patching me up afterwards but I can see her participating so I hope I go first and can finish my atonement before she comes.blink.gif

You've never wonder that there may be an afterlife? You feel certain that this is it?

As something recognizable as myself, yes, this is it. Life does not cease when I do though, there is life after.
