The oath ceremony letter N-445 asks for full signature. Do I sign the usual way I sign my checks or is it full cursive signature(First Name, Last Name and Middle).

When I sent my N-400 I signed as full cursive signature and during the interview, the IO asked me to sign the pictures and when I asked him how to sign it, he said to sign it in the usual way I sign my checks. He then asked me to sign the same way for the N-400 form and the pics. Now do I sign the way I signed my N-400 in front of the IO or the cursive way. Any inputs or thoughts would be highly appreciated.

To me signature means cursive writing. I was always brought up and always told when signing things thats a signature. A printed name is never considered a signature for most places as well. I tried it at my bank and they said no you have to sign it not print it.

just my oppinion tho =)

Latest instructions still state to write your name and alien number on the REAR of your two photos with a light pencil. Wife got chewed out for not PRINTING her name and A# on the left margin on the FRONT of her photos. If I known that, could have typed it in neatly with my photo program. Gather they are doing that now for their own convenience in making sure they paste the correct photo on the certificate without having the inconvenience of having to look on the back of it first.

State if using a digital camera, use on of at least 3.5 mega-pixels of resolution. Can't do a 2 by 2 photo with standard aspect ratios, but with a tripod can do a full facial 2 by 3", then have to crop off that extra inch. With even the 2 by 3 size photo with a 3.5 pixel camera, that works out to a resolution of 764 dots per inch. Finest high grain 35 mm film can only produce 150 DPI! No concern for us, used an 8 mp camera.

Had it professionally printed out at Walgreens paying 19 cents for six of her photos laid out on a standard 4 by 6"sheet, can guarantee its not 764 DPI.

Ironically, her two most important documents are her certificate and US passport, she signed those at home. Ha, treated her like a kid and made her write her full name, first, middle, and surname on a blank sheet of paper first. In her work, she has to sign her personally developed signature a zillion times, so it comes out automatically that way without her thinking.

Would sign your application and below the oath using the full name format, that would be a hell of a time to blow your application. Wife did take her time printing her name on her photos at her interview, quite a bit to have to write in that small space, but she did do it very neatly. Good to bring extra photos along as they recommend in case you blow it. Or even hand print those at home first on the front left hand margin. Have to rotate your photo 90 degrees clockwise to do that.
