Hi guys

I am an 18 year-old brazilian girl, and my fiancé is a 46 year-old american. I love him more than the world, and I went against everything that disapproved of us together. I am completely devoted to him and am scared to death to get nervous when the consul asks about our age gap.

It's a pretty big age gap, and I'm scared of the insinuations there may be... Pleeeease help!!

I'd really appreciate any advice on how not to get nervous =]

Thanks a lot

If I'm not mistake I believe 25 years age difference is the cut off for the age gap and you guys have a 28 year age difference. That could just apply to the country we had to go through. I remember the 25 years age gap cut off but it's been awhile since we were at that step.

Have you looked at the American Embassy in Brazil's guide lines for age gaps and if they have a cut off?

There is no cut of age, expect to be asked about it and to explain it.

It is unusual, but not unheard of. You will need lots of bonafide relationship evidence, and be prepared to answer questions about the age gap, such as what when he is in his 70's and you are only in your thirties? What about kids?

Also- no need to answer this here but: what is the age of consent in your country, as it is possible, though unlikely, that at your interview that you will be asked whether you have been intimate.

Well to be perfectly honest it looks bad because at 18 it's assumed you don't really know anything about love, but marrying a 20 something year old it doesn't look as bad... marrying a man old enough to be your father they may assume to be "daddy issues" BUT the important factor is their personal opinion is irrelevant. They can ONLY judge you on whether your relationship appears to be real, whether it defies the cultural norms of your country, and whether he can support you.

There is no age-gap limit. My parents have been married 30 years next year and they have a 40 year age gap. I know age is no barrier. Be prepared to fight it though.. esp. if you started the relationship as a minor (some countries this is 18, others its 16)

; wow, that's pretty big age gap. But I do know that there isn't a limit or anything  .. But like the ones above me said.. You have to prove that your relationship is real, and they will question a lot about the age gap, asks you why you have a fiance like your father's age. And they are very questioning about the fact that he just want to date a very young girl who can be his daughter. I know a case like that, and I know that they are very strict dealing with that. One last tip, just fight it!

Men in their 40s are awesome! You show very good judgement. :P

A lot will depend on your country and its "norms" as to how much of a "red flag" this is. Were it the Philippines it would be a small age gap and they would ask why you were not interested in a mature man instead of such a young kid. Likely they will ask some questions about it, but the good thing is that you noticed he is a bit older already and you can prepare for that. Be sure to have plenty of evidence of a legitimate relationship

I sincerely doubt they will ask if you have been intimate. There is no "cut off" on age gap per se, nor is there any minimum age to apply for a K-1 provided you are both eligible to marry in the USA, you are. The United States consulate has exactly ZERO interest in enforcing foreign countries laws regarding the age of consent. Unless a US citizen is in the process of having intercourse with an underage foriegn national on the property of the US consulate, there would be nothing they could do anyway.

I agree... me and my wife have 23 year age difference and we went through AOS. We showed enough ligitimate evidences and the officer was happy with us. If you guys can show love and answer questions like why age difference is not a factor , you would pass.
