I thought I had all my vaccines but when I scheduled an appointment for my medical (which will be on Tuesday 28th) I found out that I don't have half of them. Does the Canadian carecard cover all of these vaccines if you get them at a walk-in clinic? Here is the list the lady from Medisys sent me:

VACCINES PRICE (CDN$)

ADACEL 40

MMR 40

VARICELLA 90

PNEUMOCOCCIX 40

PENTACEL 50

HEP B 25

HEP A 30

POLIO SALK 50

MENACTRA 140

FLU VACCINE 25

I know that Varicella is for chickenpox but I had them a long time ago so I am immune.. do I still need it? What about the flu vaccine? It's not flu season now is it? Adacel, Pentacel, and Menactra ($140!!!???) I never got either... did everyone who already have their medical have to pay for these in cash or are they covered?

Thanks!!

Most of those should be covered at the walk in.

Basically just walk in and say you want to update your vaccines, and tell the doc what you need them for.

It's exactly what I did and I had no problems, the doctor I saw even congratulated me [early].

If you had chicken pox then you do not need the vaccine, and you can orally declare [say] that you have had it to the pannel physician.

If your interview will TAKE PLACE in flu season, then YES you need it. If not, then NO you don't need it.

Flu season is defined as November through April.

Hep B is a three part vaccine, you won't be able to finish it before you medical, you will have to show that it is "in progress".

Pentacel is PDT for babies, are you sure she said that you needed that??

Adacel should be your PDT for adults.

Sounds like medisys has a bigger list of vaccines then Seiden does.

You can always look into what Seiden wants for vaccines and try them, see link below.

Medisys will only give you what you need. Based on age if it fits your limit.

If you are going to have them done AT medisys they charge extra.

Some are covered some arent covered you would have to ask your doctor.

On the medisys form it asks if you have had chicken pox all you do is check the box YES and they put VH on your sheet which is varicella history and you do not need the shot.

If you have glasses/wear glasses bring them with you. They do a short eye test.

Edit - I dont know how old you are but you should have had MMR and ADECEL - mumps mesils rubella and tetanus shots.. thos are usually given as babys unless your mother skipped that.

I went to medisys for my medical.

Heres the immunization pdf requirements from the CDC for 2010.

http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/PDF/wk/mm5901-Immunization.pdf

Shows a detailed list of the shots with the ages.

Medisys gives a general list if you ask for it and they leave it to you to check if you have what you need for shots. They did the same for me and told me to see my personal doctor if I need shots because it would cost extra to have them do it. I had my tetanus booster done because I was 2 weeks away from needing it anyways.

If you need to you can also have a titer/titre test done do see your imunitys. That way you can bring it and say you dont need certain shots because you have the imunitys. IE if you dont know if you had a MMR or not ( or cant find the records ) one of thos tests will show you if you are immune and such.

Good luck.

Don't stress about the interview, it's easier then you think, and the people there are really nice.
