My wife had a hard time, from the beginning. She compared EVERYTHING to how "good" they had it in the Philippines. We struggled a lot, at first. She went back to the Phils twice within the first 7 months. She was confused, and torn between two countries. She was trying to hang onto her job with a leave of absense to leave a "back door" in place in case she went back to stay. The last visit, after getting "unconfused" she resigned her great job as a school principal.

I still get afraid sometimes, of what she will do, but month after month I get more reassurance. Now, she doesnt even entertain the idea of going back to the Phils. I sometimes think myself about maybe going back to the Phils to live, but she always says "after we retire".

We have a son now, and she poors her heart into that. She also has a new job that gives her a feeling of freedom, of independance, escape and happiness. And... she has filipino friends here, a woman from our church who owns a filipino restaurant, the grocer, a woman she met who works nearby, etc....

We are very busy, and in love, and her life is expanding and progressing here.

Life moves forward, and we adjust...

Funny thing I just thought of.... When my great great grandparents came here from Germany, my GREAT grandfather had a hard time adjusting and was so homesick. He also tried to run away back to Germany, because he missed it so much.... I think the homesickness is hard for so many at first.... but just like it is hard to fist drive a screw into wood, once it takes hold then it goes straight and more easily.
