MBA + 5 yrs work experience

Hello everyone!

I just received my EAD a couple of days back, and now I am back to the grind of finding a job. I am an MBA in marketing (from a top business school in Asia), have a bachelors in computer science and close to 5 years of professional work experience, out of which 3 years of being a middle-level manager in Sales and marketing domain. Even though I have already applied for 2 dozen job openings, they were applied Online. I have heard a lot of not-so-good things about getting a reply from applying online. Also, I have no work experience in USA!

Now my questions :

--> If I am looking at positions as as Assistant Manager (Sales/Marketing) or retail store manager, am i hunting for a bit too high?

--> What should I expect (and be ready to accept) as my starting base salary? What position in the vertical should I be shooting for?

--> Should I drop into retail stores and give my resume out to someone?

--> Is Target/Macy's/Kohls/Nordstroms a good place to look for starting jobs for me?

Any advice/suggestions/ideas/tips/criticism is welcome! Thank you all.

there are professional organizations that are MEETING.

Suggest you find them , make a calendar, and go to at least 15.

Face to face, informal settings, personal acquaintances -

that's going to be yer best bet, for now, as everyone you meet there, face to face,

if they refer you to their company -

mostly will be going AROUND the HR department.

That's a good thing.

Thank you so much How, specifically, would I be able to find out about such meetings? I think I don't understand your post correctly - and as you suggested - I shall ask you! Can you help me find out such meetings? I live in Chicago, and also spend a lot of time in Los Angeles. Please suggest me more as to how to go about it? Thanks in advance!

then find out the meeting dates/events

and go

enter yer city / state

then enter 'marketing' in the top text box on the right, above the city/state textbox.

also, find the toastmasters guilds in yer area - see http://www.toastmasters.org and try to find a guild that meets in a large company or is sponsered by a large company, and join that guild.

keep slamming on the meetup.com site as well.

face to face, for your level of work, is the thing that works.

There's way too much competition , for those at yer level, for the 'send in the resume to HR' crowd. The techniques I am suggesting to you, bypass HR for the 'first-level screening' process.

Do I see a lot of confusion here, or do I see a lot of confusions?! I am the 'husband' and I am the Non USC spouse - my wife is the USC petitioning for my immigration. Interesting as it may sound, I would like you to please direct me to ONE post where you feel my wife has used my ID. No, seriously - she has never come to Visajourney.com - not that I know of. Using my ID seems so out of question, even keeping in mind the possibility of me leaving my ID logged on and she replying to it. Wow - this is really confusing. :-)

Secondly - about you not hearing back from 'me, the immigrant husband' over the job hunt - here I go : I would be a part of the motorpress guild luncheon on 12th of October, where I see a lot of guest speakers being my prospect recruiters! I have been in the automotive field for 90% of my professional career, and I would love to continue with that. Through meetup.com, I was able to find a Non-profit agency called Experience Unlimited and also caljobs.com. I have contacted them, and they have assured me of job-matching prospects next week. Let's see where it takes me. I have been sent to the second stage of interview with groupon.com , as a freelance writer too. Things are looking up at the moment.

Finally - I would definitely look forward to being rewarded with some more fruitful advice from you .... and thanks a lot for helping me hitherto.

Fortunately, or otherwise, I applied for this job on Yum Brands website! Through meetup.com groups, all I could manage was some networking - where mostly everyone sat down to sulk over the bad economy and an even worse job market.

But my perseverance with job hunt paid off, with an interview call with Yum!
