The most prominent is the Pioneer Fund, a foundation that has a history of promoting the genetic superiority of white, European-Americans, which gave $1.2 million.

by Jill Garvey

The anti-immigrant movement, and especially the powerful John Tanton Network, would like us to believe that it has millions of supporters around the country funding its activities. The truth is that while the Tanton Network has millions of dollars to carry out its politically extreme agenda, it's real funding comes from a small group of controversial foundations. The most prominent is the white supremacist Pioneer Fund, a foundation that has a history of promoting the genetic superiority of white, European-Americans, which gave John Tanton $1.2 million to seed his modern day anti-immigrant empire. Lesser known, however, is a foundation which donates million to John Tanton organizations each year: the Colcom Foundation.

The Southern Poverty Law Center's Heidi Beirich describes the Colcom Foundation as "a $400-million-plus entity founded in 1996 by Cordelia Scaife May of the far-right Scaife family. May is a close friend and long-time funder of John Tanton…And Colcom's vice president is John Rohe, who worked for years at Tanton's U.S. Inc. foundation and once wrote a fawning biography of Tanton and his wife. In 2008, Colcom gave four groups started by Tanton — FAIR, U.S. Inc., the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) and NumbersUSA — a total of nearly $8.5 million, part of it earmarked for work on the "impact of immigration" on the environment. In 2009, according to Colcom's website, it also supported the newly established Progressives for Immigration Reform, now the leading greenwashing organization in the country."

This is important to know, especially when anti-immigrant groups claim that they are supported through small donations from individuals. Back in March of 2010, a NumbersUSA Action email solicited individuals for donations. NumbersUSA Action is one of the three interlocking organizations under the umbrella of NumbersUSA. In the email NumbersUSA Action suggested that, unlike its opponents, it receives no monies from government or foundation sources. The email said nothing about its research and education arm taking millions from the right-wing Sarah Scaife Foundation and the population control-oriented Colcom foundation.

Colcom not only funds the most prominent Tanton Network groups such as FAIR, U.S. Inc., CIS and NumbersUSA. It also funds the Immigration Reform Law Institute, FAIR's legal arm. Other Tanton Network groups funded by Colcom include Progressives for Immigration Reform, Negative Population Growth, and Coalition for a Secure Drivers License.

The connections go even deeper than sizable grants. The Colcom Foundation's vice president, John Rohe, worked for John Tanton for many years at his foundation, U.S., Inc. And the late Cordelia Scaife May, who founded Colcom in 1996, was a close friend and long-time funder of John Tanton. In 2005, the year of her death, Scaife May was recognized as the most generous giver in the United States, leaving $404 million in cash and property to the Colcom Foundation and other charitable organizations.

Unfortunately, Scaife's legacy is marred as millions of those dollars still fund hate groups and politically extreme anti-immigrant organizations.

Anti-Legal Immigrant groups are short on support, especially mine.

Anti-Illegal Immigrant groups, on the other hand, are not.

Had a glance at the site, looks like Bigot is the new liberal catchphrase used to divert legitimate discussion.

Strange how not one of these pathetic sites touches why no other first world countries have open borders and quite the opposite policies actually.

Also quite typical of you to support anyone who discredits legitimate concerns because apparently some other group have their own agenda. What was it libs like yourself were beating on about regarding not all Muslims being the culprit, therefore, concerns were null and void. Funny how this goes straight out the window, the second you believe in something, as you then look for the extreme - to claim it's the norm.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Realistically, why shouldn't legal immigration be monitored too? The US is hurting, millions of Americans are out of work.

Logically speaking, why would any unskilled migrants be required? In this economy, only the most skilled and essential should be allowed to migrate.

I'm calling you out on what you post, what's the problem with that? You post nothing but negatives about this country and it's in EVERY post you make. What does that imply about you?

No, you are simply violating the TOS. Just because you do not agree with me or like me, does not mean you can follow me around and talk #######, in every single bloody thread.

Get a life man.

And what have I done to violate the terms of service? You're the one calling me names. I have been calling you out quite diplomatically.

Immigration is great and most modern countries encourage it. That said, they analyze the situation accordingly and then determine who and how many can come enter; considering immigration is a privilege and not a right. The US is hurting, so it's absolutely ridiculous that anyone would advocate for unlimited immigration in this economy and the worst in nearly 80 years.

First thing Aus did following the onset of the global recession was to cut their immigration quotas in half and across the board. Once the global economy improves, they will reevaluate and increase the quotas again. And that was the left wing government too might I add.

Could you be more specific so that I will understand what is ok and what isn't? Thanks.

Since you asked, although not pointed out specifically; baiting members across the board is not acceptable. You may not see it that way, but we are getting reports. Suggest you stop.
