It is that time of year where the big tax preparing firms are offering their classes to be a tax preparer come January. Some offer free classes and some charge a nominal tuition. If you pass, they generally offer you a position. It doesn't pay great andis temporary but it is job experience nonetheless.

Anyway, I have a friend who does this each year and she says there are usually one or two new immigrants who take it and work at her office, so I thought I would throw the idea out there.

Does anyone know about being a translator? My husband knows 2 languages really well and some French also. Does being a trnslator require any certification? I woudl think that it is hard to get an arabic-english translator and with the current events that they would be in demand? what do u think?

My husband signed up for an H&R Block tax course last year. Unfortunately, it started a few days after he arrived, and during Ramadan. All the stress of adjusting et al were a bit too much, so he didn't finish. inshaAllah this year he'll take it again.

Translators do have to be certified. I know my husband looked into it for the police department, and they said he had to be state certified. Don't know much beyond that.
