Its so hard to plan a wedding when you have no idea when your fiance will be here to attend! And I have a mandatory one year training for the military starting 1 Sept which means I wont be able to take leave for the wedding or honeymoon... Our K-1 Application was submitted Jul 27th and NOA1 is dated 3 August.. I know the processing time varies, but we also have to think about the AOS processing for the honeymoon... Original wedding date is 29 May... should I move it to June or July? Any advise???

You shouldn't be making any plans that you can't change..

Everyone who submits the Petition for K1 is in the same boat.. This process creates a diferent set of problems that you wouldnt have if you dated a local girl.. You just need to understand those problems and deal with it.. So, in our case, our wedding will likely be at the courthouse followed by a party at some friends house... We plan to do something much nicer and more formal at a later date...

This is simply the reality of the K1 Process..

Our county does not require an appointment to obtain a marriage license and you need to wait one day until you can go to the judge's chambers to become legally married. I suggest you do something similar.

I would wait until after you training (for a wedding- and just do the legal thing now)- you can look at the average time for this year for Ghana and know it varies greatly-

You could be risking lots in deposits. A year is pushing it with Ghana- our VJ friends interviews were 260+ days from NOA-1 with most being over 300. That is almost a year- and you are looking at dates that close. As of today we also dont know how long pickups are going to take because its been so long since an interview has happened. So you can stay tuned for that.

Like I said- you can try to expidite because of milatary but unless you are being deployed (which it seems that you dont know this now) there arn't usually things that can be done- and with ghana an expidited interview was about 5-6 months last time.

Best of luck

Uncertainty is horrible, isn't it?

Unfortunately, it is the nature of the "beast." You can see the other Ghana VJ member's timeline who posted and you can see that from the time of the original submission to the interview date is almost one year!

You cannot plan for a wedding if you do not know when your fiance(e) will be able to be here. You can choose to get legally married and plan a fancy/expensive wedding celebration for later. Or, you could try not to plan a wedding, and then get married and have a small and manageable wedding that you could plan within the 90 days that you would have after your fiance(e) enters the country on K1 visa.

Best wishes!

Call the local JP and see what kind of notice they need. Let them kno wwhen the fiance(e) arrives and get married on the front lawn...file for your AOS. Then take you time and plan a big wedding whenever you like.

DO NOT make any plans requiring committment of funds until the visa is in your hand.

It really has helped my morale to plan my wedding. I just know that I have to plan something simple and easy to postpone if necessary, and to let my guests know that they shouldn't make concrete travel plans until I can give the official go-ahead. But at least wait until you have an interview date so you have more of a time frame. And be careful about putting down deposits until after the interview.

Some venues are free (like churches if you or someone you are connected with is a member, or public parks), and flexible. Especially in the summer when you can do something outdoors. But if you want something really big that is going to require a lot of planning, then definitely just get married legally and take your time making a later celebration exactly the way you want it.

Jen and Babs

Psalm 20:5

1/01/2007 - First date

2/04/2010 - I-129F sent

2/08/2010 - NOA1

3/30/2010 - NOA2 Approved!!

10/25/2010 - Finally back in Ghana to visit!

11/01/2010 - Interview--mostly positive, but consular officer requires cosponsor

05/18/2011 - Admin processing complete! Babs is asked to appear at the embassy on the 25th.

05/25/2011 - En route to the embassy, Babs is robbed on the roadside. His passport and other papers are all stolen. After filling out a police report, he arrives at the embassy a little late, and they allow him in to speak to the CO, even though he has no valid ID. Thank God! The CO gives him another appointment on June 15th, to bring a new passport and also an updated police certificate.

06/14/2011 - New passport (expedited) ready.

06/15/2011 - The CO finds a missing stamp on the new passport. Sends Babs back to the passport office and tells him to return in the afternoon. All is taken care of. VISA APPROVED!!!! PRAISE GOD!!!!
