Long Form Birth certificate question...

So I ordered this Monday and wasn't expecting it for another three weeks because I chose the free delivery option giving me 15 business days.

Today, it showed up at my door and I had to sign for it. I'm happy that I didn't pay the extra $30.00 for the "guaranteed in 5 business days" delivery.

This is a certified copy of my statement of live birth... that's what they're looking for, right?

Mine does not say anything about live birth but that may be a provincial thing. Mine just says Birth Certificate (Nova Scotia) Has my name, DOB, parents names, date registered.

Mine said birth certificate as well. Make sure your parents name is on there.

I'm from Ontario, if it helps.

It's got all my birth information, my parents' names and their dates of birth, places of birth, etc. registration, attendant, hospital of my birth, etc.

ETA: At the top it is "This is a permanent legal record." in small text under where it says Province of Ontario.

I just think it's weird that it does not state "Birth Certificate" at the top. 'Cause that's what they want really, I don't know if what you got is actually that...

Someone from Ontario might want to comment on this...

Yeah, hopefully. I *think* this is right, but the lack of the word certificate is what's concerning me. This is from the Ontario government website regarding what I ordered...

Long Form (Certified)

This contains all registered information, including:

Name (last name and given name(s))

Date of birth

Birthplace (city, town, village, municipality)

Sex

Location of birth (hospital, birthing centre, etc.)

Parents' names

Parents' dates of birth

Mother's mailing address at the time of birth

Duration of the pregnancy

Number of children born to this mother

Parents' birthplaces

Weight of the child at birth

Type of birth (single, multiple, etc.)

Attendant at the birth

Date of registration

Registration number

Date issued

It is provided in the form of a certified copy. You may need a certified copy if for example:

You are moving to another country

You are an executor for a foreign estate

You are adopting a child abroad

You are filling out certain citizenship or immigration documents

So it *sounds* right. Hmm.

Is it on cream colored paper? ( silly question i know ) however, I believe i have the same thing, ( mine is from Ontario too )

It certainly doesn't look like a birth certificate.

Does it have the seal on it??

Perfect! :) Thanks everyone. I figured it was the right document but the fact that the word "certificate" wasn't on it had me confused - as most Ontario-ans know it looks nothing like the wallet-sized birth certificates.

I was rather confused when i got mine too, because it is a rather large, detailed document. Does'nt look like the average birth certificate.

mine from ottawa was neon yellow legal sized paper and had a scan in the middle of it of what I think was the original record and I got a notice saying it was to old and falling appart to send it on the other paper? It was kind of odd.. but it was accepted. It had a red border around it with stamp on it and all kinds of stuff. My interviewer commented on it that the original had been done on a really old type writer " back in the day ". I gave him an eyebrow because im not THAT old lol... 26 for heck sakes!
