For me and my family the ideal will be to stay healthy, trust God, choose a top notch medical plan, and put myself in a financial situation where I have no fear of paying extra for something the insurance company won't cover.

Stay Healthy? ..... there are never any guarantees in life.

Trust God? .... that just does not work for everyone.

Choose a top notch medical plan? ........ big $$$$$$$.

put yourself in a certain financial situation? ....... financial disasters do happen to many people .... job loss and much more.

Personnally my wife and I have had discussions about the possibility of moving back to Canada one day since any potential health issues there would not leave us bankrupt or even homeless. You just cant count on life being always kind to you or something coming to your rescue ... thats just foolish.

Hi All,

I just called to get a quote to add my new husband to my self-employed insurance plan which just raised it's rates to $390 a month for a healthy 43 year old woman. Adding my 50 year old husband to my policy will bring the premium to.... $1,194.00 a month! Now I guess I have to get a crappy cautostrophic plan for both of us for only $400.00 a month, that covers nothing. Oh yeah!!!!

My MIL just got a bill for over $2,600 JUST FOR AN AMBULANCE RIDE TO THE HOSPITAL.

She didn't have insurance, so she would've been screwed if she wasn't filing for bankruptcy. Let's hope this can be reduced or voided because of that.

Kevin, you indicate you are an adventist in your post. Do you also consider yourself christian? Jesus Christ is reported to have made many statements about the imperative to take care of those less fortunate and yet you seem to be defending a very right-wing point of view that seems to condone having the best medical care YOU CAN PAY FOR!! Is that the adventist version of christianity? By the way, I have reason to know a lot about our health-care 'system'. The criticisms are occasionally off-target but generally quite valid. The insurance industry in our country sucks away a huge number of dollars that would be better spent on actually providing care. They are a big part of the problem! I personally believe in single-payer as the best model, spreading the risk over the entire population and having one, high standard of care for everyone in this country.

^^^Well said.
