On some of the AOS forms, you have to fill in your parents names, the problem is that my dads real name is Arie, ( dutch ) but he has always been known as Harry and that is what is on my birth certificate. I have printed the forms using his real name, but now I am thinking that I should use Harry as they may check it on my birth certificate.. Any ideas?

Thinking back, I am pretty sure I used Arie when we sent the petition off in the beginning of our K1 application, and that all went smoothly, but I can't remember if I had to present a birth certificate at that time.. I probably did though right?

Thanks in advance

First, check your K1 paperwork. You do NOT want to contradict yourself, that could cause all sorts of issues. Make sure what you put on your AOS docs is the same as your K1 docs.

As for your fathers name, has he done a legal name change? Some places allow a name change simply by using that name regularly. My father also has an "odd" name and a name he goes by however all legal documents carry his legal name. There has to have been a reason he was able to put Harry on it because he would have been asked to show ID. Does another form of his ID say Harry? Like his drivers licence? Do you have any documents that marry the name changes together? Maybe something with a photo like his passport if it says Arie, and his DL if it says Harry, (or vice versa) I'd get a copy of those in case you have an interview and are asked there.

Also bear in mind that if in time you decide to petition your parents, it's important that you list your parents correctly now so THEY don't have issues when it comes their time to immigrate.

Best of luck to you :)

Thanks for the reply, I dug out my k1 papers and on the biographic info I put my dads real name Arie. So I guess I will keep it as that now.

My birth certificate does say Harry though so this worries me. He never changed his name legally although he has always been known as that and has credit cards in that name. His passport and drivers license do so Arie though.

Maybe I should include a copy of his passport?
