He went an to say that "Mexicans", the people of the country of Mexico, were here long before America was even an idea. The context was countries. The country of Mexico wasn't here long before America, the common word used to describe the USA, was even an idea. What is next, referring to native indians before 1776 as Americans?

You are arguing semantics and ignoring any and all context. He meant the the people who would come to be Mexicans were here long before us. This is absolutely nothing like Palin saying "I can see Russia from my house" as if her location imbued foreign policy knowledge and experience. He was not perfectly clear in his speech, but you know what he was talking about. Don't delude yourself, you understood his reference, you are just nitpicking things to be selectively outraged about.
