Hello everyone,

My fiancé and I are waiting for out interview, already sent in packet 3. I inquired at the embassy and got the following email:

The Immigrant Visa Unit of the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok received the returned Packet 3 documents of Ms. PATIMA ****** through the mail on September 10, 2010. The interview appointment has not been scheduled. Due to the large volume of applicants, now it takes about 10-12 weeks after having received the returned Packet 3 for the IV Unit to schedule an interview appointment. We will be in touch with the applicant by mailing the Packet 4 to this address when the interview appointment date is scheduled.

10-12 weeks!? The flowchart says 1 week, travel.state.gov says 7 days (http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/wait/wait_4788.html?post=Bangkok&x=88&y=11) and the visa stats page (http://www.visajourney.com/timeline/stats.php) has consulate receiving to actual interview at 62 days! How can that be if they aren't even giving out appointments for 84 days! So frustrated. If I really knew it was going to take this long I would probably go for a visit in the next couple weeks but there's so much conflicting information.

Anyone have any idea?

It's taking longer these days. Go with what the embassy email says. We sent our packet 3 june 30 and received packet 4 email 7 weeks later with our interview september 14. Although things change month to month, it's hard to predict. Right before we sent our stuff in people were getting interview 4 to 7 weeks out instead of 2 or 3 months

Thank gbago. That would put us at about Nove 13th, which would be bad, but tolerable. I really hope it's not as long as they say. Congrats by the way!

It is thought that VJ indicates about 2% of total cases.

The embassy in BKK handles about 700 cases per month. The estimate by the embassy is probably correct or the best they can tell you at this time. The most recent cases I know of took that long as well.

Hopefully you will have the interview in early Nov. Remember the embassy recognises all Thai & American holidays.
