Hello All,

I married a wonderfull woman from El Salvador using Visa Journey thru the whole process of a Fiance Visa. Now, 3 years have passed and we have a beautiful 1 year old. Now, I want to bring her mom her for a visit. The Embassy turned her down after I sent my tax returns and a letter promising to pay for the air plane ticket and all expenses. The embassy said there was no guarantee that she would not desert her husband of 30 years and the 2 remaining kids at home, so they denied her. Now, my wife is close to becoming a US citizen. We are going to apply for her mother's green card, but she does not want to live her. All she wants to do is visit and return to her family in El Salvador. Any comments or suggestions????

A B2 is issued on its own merit. By showing the immigration people that your mother-in-law has a functioning support system in the US, you killed her chances of getting a visa. She needs to show ties to El Salvador, not the US of A.

A Green Card is for permanently residing in the US.

I guess you could use it to come over, change your mind, go back, abandon it and repeat.

A bit pricey.

what happened to 'showing strong ties in the home country' bits?

There's a list of these things, almost at each Embassy NIV web info page.

what happened to 'showing strong ties in the home country' bits?

There's a list of these things, almost at each Embassy NIV web info page.

Not a problem if they go the GC route.

My inlaws are poor. They subsist on money that the family here send them. Vistors visas a skewed for people that have money to spend in the US.

I am not sure what your point is. Vacations take money, international vacations a lot more so.

Same thing here. My mother was denied just the other day for a tourist visa.

She is retired and obviously cannot afford her trip. But that is the reason we send her our Invitation Letter and a Letter to the consul and our ITR etc telling we will personally make sure she will go back home within the authorized period.

My citizenship is in the process so we will file I-130 for her the next day after my oath.

It's totally messed because she doesn't really want to stay here long. But with the GC, she needs to.

That's one thing I would change as part of comprehensive immigration reform:

If a US citizen or LPR invites a family member he or she can sign a form taking responsibility for said person.

If the family member fails to leave the US in time, the USC agrees to pay a $20K fine; if that happens to an LPR, they on top of this agree to surrender their Green Card. Looks pretty bullet-proof to me.
