I met a Pigtowner (it may actually have been Rob) at Odenton Station last year, who responded to my comment that I could not understand what changed with Canada's 1982 Constitution (the comment was made to a non-Canuck) with the erroneous "the queen is no longer head of state"--and could NOT answer further when I asked him why the 1989 citizenship swear-in oath still mentioned her (and by name) and the coinage of Canada after that time STILL shows her profile.

How would most people here know? A serious answer to this question requires more knowledge than most people here know about either Jewish law or Sharia than most here have, including the OP.

I think he said (unless I misunderstood) that Sharia embodies an agenda of

world domination, not just a set of rules for it's adherents to follow (as Jewish

law and Canon law have). Am I oversimplifying or do I have to study Christian,

Jewish and Islamic law for 30 years to be able to get this firmly under my belt?

One may say that evangelical Christianity also has the element of spreading

the faith to unbelievers, but not since the Crusades have Christians taken this

to mean political and social subjigation & domination. I think that evangelicals

pretty much subscribe to the separation of church and state (although

extremists may differ with that).

During Medieval times the Catholic church did meddle with politics because

it was a power player in temporal matters as well as spiritual.

With Sharia the two (religion and state) are inseperable and that is the

CURRENT present-day position of many Islamic states.

As long as you live in a secular country that separates church from state it doesn't matter. If another country in another part of the world wants to be governed by sharia or jewish law it is their business and their choice.

There are Talmudic courts in the US. Most Americans arent aware of that. I posted a thread about then just yesterday that no one responded to.

Probably because Talmudic courts are only recognised by Orthodox Jews (which are not even the majority of religious Jews), and apply only to Jews (<= 5% of total US population).

And please answer Shal's (and my) posts (I didn't see the video at all--but looked into Levitius' dietary-laws, and actually asked some DC-area Bangla and Iraqi grocers about the corresponding Halal).

I'm a Palestinian Muslim with a PhD in Islamic law who studied in the ME and worked in Sharia courts. Maybe Shai and I can commiserate, but there's not much to say to "No". Plus, just being from a Muslim country doesn't make you an expert in either Sharia or Talmudic law any more than being an American qualifies you for the Supreme Court. No offense meant to Shai, who is not the demanding one here.

No. Dietary laws are proof enough (stuffed-camel¹ is a known dish amongst Muslim Bedouin, and shellfish/crustaceans are not prohibited² in Muslim diet).

1. Leviticus 11:4 details prohibition of camel-meat in Jewish diet
2. I attempted (and failed) to put up a poll which included this subject four years ago--it all-too-quickly degenerated to a shill-fest and I asked Ewok to lock the thread (I'm not going to go through 100+ pages of the General Polls section to find it)

The most interesting thing about the question is that it asked if Jewish law and Sharia are the same, not if they are identical, The same could mean that they both have dietary laws, laws about marriage and family, about dress, etc.. The are both legalistic faiths; they have that in common.
