On Friday the 17th we received my husband's adjustment of Status papers back stating that it was denied because the check amount is incorrect or has not been provided. The exact wording on the document says this:

"The check amount is incorrect or has not been provided. The correct filing fee is $930.00. Each applicant between the ages of 14 and 79 must also include an additional $80.00 fingerprint fee. Please resubmit the application with the appropriate fees to the address listed on the bottom of this notice."

In the directions to file it states this:

"The filing fee for Form I-485 is $930. An additional biometrics fee of $80 is required when filing your Form I-485...You may submit one check or money order for both the application and biometrics fees, for a total of $1010...Use the following guidelines when you prepare your check or money order for the Form I-485 and the biometrics services Fee: 1. The check or money order must be drawn on a bank or other financial institution located in the United States and must be payable in U.S. Currency; and 2. Make the check or money order payable to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security...NOTE: Effective July 30, 2007 if you file Form I-485, no additional fee is required to also file an application for employment authorization on Form I-765, Appication for employment document.

I did EXACTLY what the directions told me to do to a T!!! What else do they want from me? Am I missing something? What did I do wrong. I made the check out for $1010 and wrote it correctly in both places. I Made it out to U.S. Department of Homeland Security, I signed it, dated it and put Form I-485 in the memo for my own records. Should I have left the memo out? Help Please!!!

Well that's weird...they should have accepted your payment. There's only one AOS applicant, right? Just your wife?

Did you write the correct amount in words on the check as well as in numbers?

My husband wrote on the memo also, your application should not have been returned...I wonder if they misread the amount?

Since they returned the entire package to you, might as well make out a new check and send it off again (make a photocopy of the check for your records)...just review your package again and make sure everything's in there. Aside from the AOS, did you have any accompanying applications with it, like the EAD ans AP?

Yes, it's actually for my husband. Everything on the check is written correctly. That's why it's so weird.

I'm sorry you guys are going through this...since everything on the check was written correctly, I have no clue why they would return the application package.

Better just cancel the check you wrote and prepare a new one (write everything clearly and legibly), and send the application out again...make sure the funds are still available.

SOmetime you might have an incorrect birthdate or other problem on the form and they reject the packet. I have heard of this. It is almost as if they do not have a standard rejection letter for that so they just pick the "check is incorrect" rejection notice. ALso check to to US Dept of Homeland security not USCIS correct? If I write the check and send everything again can I send back the papers they sent to me or do I have to print everything off again? My mom has a feeling the problem might be with the way I wrote the amount on the check. Instead of writing One-Thousand Ten Dollars and 00/100...I wrote "One Thousand Ten Dollars Only". Maybe they want the 00/100 cents written on there as well and maybe got confused.
