No need to worry, it's safer to fly than driving beleive it or not.

I was working in Burghausen Germany on Sept 11, when I got a call to call home from the Headquater, Little did i know what was happening but on the way to the Hotel, I was listening to France Telecom 2 radio station then i realized what happened, and later on the rest of the stuff on CNN. People were saying if you were not scared to fly, I wasn't, actually i enjoyed that time to take so many flights giveway. Can you imagine

San francisco-Miami $136 round trip Taxes and fees included.I did some crazy traveling and you have most of the plane to yourself,

Don't worry and have a safe flight!

Gone but not Forgotten!

The safer to fly than drive quote that everyone has had drilled into their brain should come with a disclaimer stating that the statistic is based on the distance travelled. If one were to base it on a per trip basis you would be 10 X more likely to die in an airplane. This is because car trips are many many times shorter on average than airplane rides. So think of it as one week of commutes. If you thought you would get killed commuting you wouldn't do that.

All that said, you have to figure, that many people make many thousands of trips in airplanes and tens of thousands in cars and never die. We might come close a few times though.

I hate flying and avoid it as much as possible. It is very tough on the environment, expensive, and its not really a sustainable lifestyle choice. I also loathe the fact that it so subsidized with tax dollars. But if one must fly, it looks super safe.

I'm torn and have been asking myself this question the last few days.

I'm not scared of flying, but I'm fearful of terrorists. I kinda like my life and wonder if it's playing russian roulette boarding a plane.

I trust the pilot, I trust the flight attendants. But I have problems putting trust in TSA staff who I'm not convinced all work to the same strict rules. I also have trust issues with the 300+ people I'm up in the air with for 9 hours.

I know we shouldn't let them win etc but I seriously don't think scaring a few people out of flying is going to be victory for them. Personally I feel it's all gone too far and this war on terrorists will never end.

So I'm going to wait a lil bit longer to decide if I'm flying in November.

I completely agree with you Helen, am also not scared of flying but fearful of terrorists and dying such a terrible way. Yes, I could die in a car crash or something else but the thought of being blown up really really freaks me out. I havent been on London Underground since 7th July 2005 either. When I die I die, but hell, there are nicer ways to die than being blown up by a terrorist!

I dont think being blown up would be too bad. Imagine though, being in the tail section at say 25,000 feet as it depressurized and seperated.. it would take a solid minute and a half or so to hit the ground.

You would be wishing you were blown up at that point I think.

I think if you were (un)lucky enough to live throught the initial blast / shock wave you would freeze to death or die from the depressurization before you had a minute to think.

One of my coworkers just emailed us. He is now in Oman for an installation (work). He said his plane flew right over Bagdad.

Which we then started to talk about the bombadier pilots in WW2 when all they seen was the black smoke from the flak from artillery shells. Those old prop planes were not safe just getting them off of the ground much less going into combat. Just to put it into perspective on flying in today's world.

10Yr GC arrived 07/02/09 - Naturalization is next

The drama begins - again!

And now the drama ends - they took the Green card . . .

Have you noticed on the previews that state they are "uncharmable" .. #######? How many snake charmers you see when flying.. like that helps they are uncharmable.

If I could get the time off from work I would be on a plane to the Philippines tomorrow. Your chances of being on a flight with a problem are so small it's not worth worring about. Your in more danger driving to the airport.
