I have resisted long enough. If you want something that's bright, inquisitive, into everything but still loves affection and is small and apartment friendly... I have a minature Hothot rabbit and he is just the bomb. When I was a kid we had bunnies, but they always just sat there in their pen outside. Nudge has his cage in the corner of my living room. He is remarkably energetic, intelligent and playful. Sometimes when I talk to him he will stand on his hind legs and stretch up towards my face because he wants a nuzzle, or if he's particularly wound up, he'll come up and nip my arm and run away like a little fiend. Every time I come into the room he races around in circles and bounces and shakes his head. This is a trait of this breed which is I why I mentioned it specifically. They're GREAT little critters. I swear he'd talk and play cards if he could... well other then pick them all up and toss them one by one onto the floor...

Oh yeah, and they litter train really easy.

Is it possible to litter train a dog? My friend wants to get a dog for when she is alone at night in her apartment, but she works long days and doesn't want a dog that's going to go all over the place. That's why I like cats! Give them litter and they'll go in it!

Those are great pictures of the squirrel. My mother once raised one she found in our yard. He was with us for a very long time and just ran around the house like our cats. He loved to ride in the glove box of the car and eat his crackers and loved ice cream! He would sink his front claws into the cone and hold on. When he couldn't stand it any longer, he would start trying to wipe and warm up his face on the seat. His name was Spunky and he was great! Thanks for bringing back memories.

Also, dogs can be litter trained according to our vet we just saw on Wednesday and were talking about this. We have two lhasa apso, brothers, a year old and they are pad trained. We kept this up because I knew we were giving up our large backyard for our new condo and they wouldn't be out as often. It works really well.

I don't know specifically about litter, but I know you can train a dog to "go" just about anywhere. It takes persistence and most of all CONSISTENCY on your part, but you can achieve it. It's easiest if you start out with a puppy. I taught my golden the command "go potty" and then would set him in an appropriate spot when he started sniffing around. When he did his business where he was supposed to I just made such a big huge squealy deal and he thought he was just the greatest thing in the world. If I caught him doing it elsewhere he got a nasty "NO". But you have to catch them. So he learned it was REALLY FUN to go potty in the right place. The "go potty" command works nicely too if you aren't in the mood for them dawdling around while you're freezing your patoot off... gets them down to their business.

Oh, and I think that appropriate spot can be anywhere of your choosing. For me it was a spot outdoors. It can also be a pad, a paper, or I suppose a litter pan.

Wow that is great how you saved the baby squirrel! I hope he is doing well!

My friday has been pretty rotten. I work as a waitress, and it was incredibly slow today. On top of that the customers weren't tipping (kinda like fish not biting when you go out fishing). But now I am home and happy with my cat and husband. :-)
