So Ghana has issued that everyone get new Ghanian passports by 2015. I am curious to see does anyone know if the US Embassy will require our spouses to have the new biometrics passport to issue thier visa in. Just wondering if I need to make my hubby get a new passport or not?

'During the transition period, the Ghana Passport Office would continue to issue both the current passports as well as the new Biometric Passports until 31st April, 2010 after which only the Biometric Passports would be issued.

It must be noted that the current passport will remain in circulation until November 2015 when it would cease to be valid."

That seems to me that the Passports they have now will be good- I did put an email into the embassy so we will see when or if i get a reply. Maybe others can send one as well- so we can at least get an answer!

This seems to be a Ghana regulation, so not sure if it will affect the US embassy....we dont have biometric passports here- ours are machine readable and i believe if they got them in ghana within the past few years theirs are as well.

They also just started issuing them in April 2010-- so most of our petitions where sent in before that- i dont know if it will make a difference.

Just some thoughts

They didnt really answer but this is what the email states:

You must bring an international passport. If you are qualified

for the visa, we will keep it until the visa is printed and placed

inside of the passport. Please make sure that the passport is valid

for at least six months, and that there are no other valid passports

in your name. If you have previously issued passports that are still

valid, please bring them to the interview with you. Please make sure

that there are no written observations inside of your passport. If

there is a written observation, you will be asked to get another

passport.
