Were I a conspiracy theorist, I would imagine that this alleged muslim plot was contrived by MI6 in order to assuage the British public who had severe concerns about the legitimacy of spending millions on security for the pope's visit when they are undergoing the most severe austerity measures. Luckily, I'm not.

Any visit by a pope to the UK is always controversial, the UK has it's own 'pope' and a lot of people find such visits unpalatable.
