I didn't even think they regularly vaccinated for pertussis anymore. I know its given with diptheria and tetanus when you're little, but once you get older and get tetanus boosters they don't give you a pertussis booster unless you work in healthcare.

DTaP is not licensed for adolescents, adults, or children 7 years of age and older. But older people still need protection. A vaccine called Tdap is similar to DTaP. A single dose of Tdap is recommended for people 11 through 64 years of age. Another vaccine, called Td, protects against tetanus and diphtheria, but not pertussis. It is recommended every 10 years. There are separate Vaccine Information Statements for these vaccines.

tell that to the local yokels here. 2008 they lied and said my tetanus was only good for 5yrs, not 10 (i had the tetanus only shot in 2003). i'm a bit accident prone so i do keep track of my tetanus shots

i was surprised by that, they said it had been found tetanus was only good for 5yrs and i needed another, so i agreed. they gave me a shot, what i thought was tetanus, and later found out (from the release they wanted me to sign) that it was a combo shot (DTaP). i was HOT! but even more so when i got sick that night. it lasted several days and i had to fill out a vaccine reaction form myself because the hospital woudlnt acknowledge there could even be a problem with any vaccine... i had to fight with them for a few weeks just to get the batch number.

JFTR, these 'combo' shots are only good for 5yrs... tetanus only IS still good for 10yrs. so i was given a shot i did not need, nor did i give permission for it. paint me as an unhappy camper that day!

A common argument by people who don't vaccinate is "If you're vaccine works so well, why are you worried if my kids aren't vaccinated?" Like mentioned before, some children are too young to receive the vaccine and that just happens to be an age when the disease is the most dangerous. If the child who gave the baby pertussis wasn't vaccinated, then it's that parents fault that some random baby got it and died...it's not the fault of the parent whose baby was to young to receive the vac.

again, i'd like the stats on how many UNvaccinated kids get the disease versus how many are vacinated and not properly informed. they think they are under this umbrella of protection while spreading it with their bad hygiene habits (look the other way while saying "oh kids will be kids" as their snotty-nosed, filthy hands, little cretins run rampant blowing and wiping their germs everywhere).

how hard is it to keep a sick child HOME. you know how many babies were given live polio immunization adn the instruction is always "avoid other young children, the elderly, and immune-compromised people" but do they listen so they dont risk others? not most of the time, which is shocking to me. i followed those instructions to the letter, but then i have immune-compromised and elderly people in my family and in my group of friends.

it's just a simple fact of life, people dont give a ####### about others, so as long as humans are selfish creatures, there will be disease wiping them out.

chicken pox was another BS vaccine that gave false sense of security. i made the mistake of getting this for my kid, now he will forever have to worry about catching chicken pox becasue after the fact they found it doesnt give lifelong immunity like they said. better to expose them to it and let them get natural immunity. but in this day and age of everyone being too busy to spend a moment with their children, parents would rather get a patch on the problem (vaccine that gives temp immunity) than spend the time with an itchy child. teh danger to an adult who gets chicken pox is much more serious than a child, but parents dont think that far ahead, it's all about what will inconvenience them less NOW. (which is also why we have so many "c-sections of convenience").

as far as vaccines, NOW i would never get for myself or cause my child to get, another "combo" vaccine... BTDT with both of us. it's not a nice thing. yes, it's more expensive but definitely worth the cost to get only the shot needed.

I do not blame illegal aleins for this. Not at all. Why?

It is not their fault that their country has done nothing to eliminate disease when we KNOW how to eliminate it. Eliminating polio, diptheris, whooping cough, malaria, TB are easily accomplished. we did it. So can anyone else, simply follow the lead. The other countries do not because they are corrupt and do not care about anything but lining there own pockets.

So the incidence of these diseases in other countries is not the "fault" of people illegally in this country.

The people illegally in this country are here because OUR government will take no action against employers that employ illegal aliens in order to exploit them, abuse them, avoid our laws protecting workers, etc. They are here because someone will give them a job making more money than they can make in their own country. Period. (drug smugglers have no intention to "immigrate" and are not "illegal immigrants", separate issue)

Employers hire them because the benefit to them (avoiding our labor and wage laws and taxes)is worth more than the penalty. Even if caught, very unlikely, they are money ahead.

NONE of this will be fixed until OUR government makes it completely impractical to RISK hiring an illegal alien. The illegal aliens will then LEAVE...self deport...and not come back. It will be a lot easier to catch drug smugglers when they are not mixed in with 1 million lettuce pickers and grass cutters crossing the borders with them.

It is the fault of OUR government, equally Democrats and Republicans. Democrats only want to find a way to make the dependent citizens and reliable votes for Democrats and Republicans want an underclass that will provide cheap, exploitable labor for business. NONE of them care if you get a disease.

This problem and all others associated with illegals will be solved when our government does what they KNOW will work.

You want people to buy houses? Give them a tax break. Worked. You want people to buy cars? Give them a tax break. Worked. You want them to caulk their windows, replace their doors, insulate their homes, buy efficient water heaters? Give them a tax break. A MONETARY INCENTIVE! Amazing how it works in a capitalist society...without fail, every time it is tried.

You want employers to STOP hiring illegals? You want illegals OUT OF HERE? Then apply either a HUGE tax break for proving ALL employees are legally presnt in the US...like elimination of ALL payroll tax collected and return it to the employers as a bonus...

OR a crippling, scarey, business ruining tax for the employment of illegals. When the risk of hiring illegals no longer exceeds the benefit, their will be NO jobs for them and they will LEAVE the same way they came.

It will never happen because no one really wants them out of here, they just want to act like it in a manner that pleases whatever voting block the aspire to. The "problem" is most easy to fix. The REAL problem is that the "problem" is not a problem to the people that can fix it. It is the calculated result...the production of an underclass of people which has always been present in this country by government design.

Nothing to do with the fact that there has been a trend in recent years for AMERICAN parents to become suspicious of vaccinations and become complacent about the reality of childhood diseases that many have little to no experience of to the point of rejecting the vaccination programs in numbers that will encourage the incidence of these types of epidemics, oh no.

Lesson to be learned, vaccinating all our children before they should be allowed into public schools is a public health necessity.

I read this illness is at its highest level since 1955.

It's no secret a lot of these illnesses are making a comeback and I suppose some could blame the deaths and suffering on those who encouraged the free flow of unchecked people into this country.

They are noisy and troublesome. They will eat my food if I leave it where they can get it. They will break things. Yada, yada, yada. I do not need more reasons to eliminate the raccoon "problem". I have enough.

I built a fence, cost me a lot of money. They climbed the fence I built! I stayed up late and watched my yard with a GUN to SHOOT THEM if they come into my property...but I got tired and fell asleep and they came anyway, besides my yard is really big and I can't watch all of it all the time, and then they started coming during the day when I was at work and doing other things I have to do!

And THEN, the solution came to me. WHY were they coming? Food. They want to eat. They were finding FOOD in the garbage cans! I surmised that it was EASIER to find food in my garbage cans than in the forest where they are supposed to live, their home. ...PUT SECURE LIDS ON THE GARBAGE CANS so there is nothing to eat! Worked. I don't know where they went, and I don't care, but they are gone. I also found out that the lids on the garbage cans do not have to be stroinger than raccoons...they only have to be stronger than someone else's lids. You only have to make it more difficult to get food at YOUR house than at some other place.

I do not "blame" raccoons for wanting to eat, or having rabies or distemper. I blame MYSELF if I do not find an effective way to protect my property from them.

Why is it so difficult for OUR government to figure this out? It seems like the solution to raccoons is well known.

Yes, the reason I posted this thread was because I heard a radio host blaming illegals for the pertussis outbreak. While it is possible someone could have brought it over from Mexico or South America most likely it was caused by parents not vaccinating the children who are old enough to get the vaccination, in turn a baby too young to be vaccinated catches whooping cough. From what I understand Mexico has a firm policy on children being vaccinated, they can't get waivers like parents in the U.S. ......if Mexico enforces it or not I can't say. I know my 2 year old is up to date on her shots, and so are my wife and I.

The topic is about blaming Illegals for an outbreak of whopping cough; nothing else.

I may agree with you on other issues with illegals but it seems we disagree with immunization.

If you are against vaccines do not vaccinate your family and home school your kids.(laws require them to be vaccinated to attend school)

But the fact is we will use the flu vaccination.

The inject you with a non viral strain of the flu to build your immune system to cerian flu types it isnt 100% but it does lower the outbreaks and seriousness of those outbreaks.

Do you need it no most healthy people will survivie the flu.

Let look at Chicken Pox while most peple would survive a bout with it the potential scarring, hepititus, pneumonia, meningitis, arthritis, osteomyelitis, sepsis, shock, and deathis not worth the risk of a child having it.
