Hi Guys!

Surely I'm not the only one in the situation but I have yet to find a topic about it..and buy i've looked everywhere!!!

So here we go!

I KNOW i'm in the very very early stages of the whole process...however I've seen some cases on the forums where couple get extra lucky and get everything done in 4 months!!! Lucky as I am, it will not become a stotry I will tell to my fiture children when I will telle them about Mommy and Daddy

so my question is, being a French citizen living in UK, how the hell do I deal with translating my birth certificate and police certificate...and will my French medical records be any help when i go to the medical exam??? Do i have to get new vaccines just the doctor can't figure it out?

I would really appreciate your input guys....pleeeease (i'm begging now...oh dear)

Hi !

To translate your birth certificate and your police record (or any kinds of official papers), you have to go to an assermented translator. I'm sure there are plenty who translate from french to english in the UK ! I know that here in France it's about 30 euros a page.

You can also schedule an appointment with your GP ahead of time to make sure that you already have all the immunization required (you will find a list online) but if you're between 18 and 25 and you've been serious about vaccines, you shouldn't need any new ones. Then you'll bring a vaccine certificate to the medical prior to the interview to show the doctor that you're good. Anyway, you only need to complete the shots before AOS so if you're missing something you could get them done later and even in the US.

You can have anyone who is fluent in French and English translate your documents. The "certification" is a statement they write, ie "I certifiy that I am fluent in both French and English and this document is an accurate and complete translation. " It does not have to be a paid service. I've read this in various places on the USCIS and DHS websites.

Here's something from the Embassy in London:

Official Translations: Any supporting documentation that you provide that is in a language other than English must be accompanied by a complete English translation. The translation must be completed by an independent party. The party providing the translation must note that his/her work is accurate and that he/she is competent to translate. The full name of the translator, address and contact information is also required.

And here's something from USCIS with a suggested form:

Please submit certified translations for all foreign language documents. The translator must certify that s/he is competent to translate and that the translation is accurate.

The certification format should include the certifier's name, signature, address, and date of certification. A suggested format is:

Certification by Translator

I [typed name], certify that I am fluent (conversant) in the English and ________ languages, and that the above/attached document is an accurate translation of the document attached entitled ______________________________.

Signature_________________________________

Date Typed Name

Address

A tip: Make copies because you will need your birth certificate translation again for AOS.

Perhaps giving the doctor what they need, in a format that they understand, would be prudent. That format could be in the form a bilingual vaccination history list that you ask your doctor in France to provide, or it could be you getting the information translated. The burden is on you and the petitioner to get things done.

Blaming the doctor for not comprehending another language is similar to blaming the cop for catching you speeding down the road.
