Hello All,

I am in need of some advice.

My fiance received the packet with the interview date on Monday 9/13. The interview is scheduled for 9/30.

She can get most of the documentation sorted by then, save for the Police certificate. As you all likely know, this takes at least 15 days in most cases, but can take up to 30.

We have requested that the appointment be rescheduled but so far have had no luck. (Obviously, we want to be done as soon as possible. But if it is delayed a month or two it will actually be ok because she is in the middle of sorting out some apartment arrangements for her mother for which she needs to be there.)

My questions are:

1. Have any of you successfully rescheduled your appointment?

2. If so, what process did you use?

3. If we cannot get the appointment rescheduled, will she still be able to go through with the interview and mail in the Police certificate once she has it?

4. In the scenario for ques 3, would she be allowed to send in the certificate by mail or would she have to go back to the Embassy? Hopefully, the former as she lives in Vladivostok.

Thanks in advance,

Derek

By using money, you may be able to get the cert quicker.

I have sucessfully speeded up the receipt of documents with cash bribes. I would suggest postponing the the interview until you are ready.

For other members...police certificates are valid for ONE YEAR from issuance at any US consulate, no matter what "expiration" date may be printed on them by the issuing authority. You WILL need one from each country your fiancee lived in for more than 6 months since age 16. Get them in advance.

Ukraine no longer requires translations of these documents, Russia still does. You need to allow for that also. Alla got her police certificate in February and had her interview in August.

1. Have any of you successfully rescheduled your appointment?

2. If so, what process did you use?

1. Yes.

2. Called the embassy on that $49.99/minute (or however much they charge. Think it's like $12 or something.... either way, it's outrageous.) line and talked to an American. Told them we wanted to push the date back for whatever reason and they had no problem doing it.

3. If we cannot get the appointment rescheduled, will she still be able to go through with the interview and mail in the Police certificate once she has it?

You'll be able to get it rescheduled. However, if for some reason you can't, she should go without it. She can mail it in later.

4. In the scenario for ques 3, would she be allowed to send in the certificate by mail or would she have to go back to the Embassy? Hopefully, the former as she lives in Vladivostok.

Mail. My wife came from Vlad too and she was able to get her cert pretty quick. I'm not sure how much the "fee" was but it wasn't a hassle for her at all.

Hello All,

My questions are:

1. Have any of you successfully rescheduled your appointment?

yes

2. If so, what process did you use?

Called department of State I think through Ombudsman office since phone call and email requests were jacked. They contacted chief consular for me who got the interview not only changed dates but changed embassies

3. If we cannot get the appointment rescheduled, will she still be able to go through with the interview and mail in the Police certificate once she has it?

? Not sure this seems like a ####### shoot as to who might be manning the door that day. Could get turned back because don't have all documents in the pile that they requested?

4. In the scenario for ques 3, would she be allowed to send in the certificate by mail or would she have to go back to the Embassy? Hopefully, the former as she lives in Vladivostok.

If you choose to go this route, make sure you have the case number written EVERYWHERE... envelope, certificate etc. I think given the volume of paperwork this is a huge risk of delay of the case if something is lost. IMHO having read enough horror stories.
