Hi guys,

We mailed out our GC petitions last Tuesday (9/7/10) and the package arrived at USCIS lockbox in Chicago on Thursday. (9/9/10) It has been 7 days...yet we haven't heard anything from USCIS. Our checks still haven't cashed out, no NOA1 in our mailbox. I'm a bit worried now...

Is it still a normal condition? Should I worry or I should just wait a little bit more time?!

I also have another question...the checks...are they supposed to cash out first before the first NOA? Or it should be the opposite situation?!

Praying really hard me,

Estrella

Give it a few more days.

We mailed ours on the 9th and it was delivered on the 11th at the Chicago lockbox.

They will cash the check before sending you an NOA1. If you also sent your EAD and/or your AP application at the same time as your AOS, they have to prepare NOA1s for those too.

What visa did you arrive on?

I arrived on F-1 student because I was getting my MS. degree. And yeah, I sent everything (I-130, I-485, I-864, I-693, and others) together in the package but I used document protections to separate them.

Hey thanks for making me feel a bit better though... =)

I just sent in my AOS packet as well. It arrived on the 13th and I received the return receipt in the mail two days ago, but we did not receive an email/text even though we sent in an E-notification form (G-1145). Maybe they only send that out when they actually start processing the forms?

I'm anxious like you but have some friends who have gone through this and they agree that all you can do is wait. No news doesn't mean bad news, just remember that!

Good luck with your application!

AOS timeline:

Mailed AOS packet on Sept. 9 2010

Day 2 - USPS tracking confirms delivery.

Day 6 - Return receipt from Chicago Lockbox received.

Day 8 - Text/email alerts received.

Day 9 - Checks cashed.

Day 11 - NOA1 received (all forms).

Day 16 - Biometrics appointment notice received.

Day 40 - Biometrics completed.

Day 53 - Initial interview appointment notice received.

Day 59 - EAD card production notice email/text received.

Day 70 - AP document received.

Day 72 - EAD card received.

Day 85 - Interview. Verbal approval received.

Based on what I have read, VJ members have been receiving e-mail and SMS notifications first, then the hard copy of the NOA1s will be in the mail after that. Usually the check is cashed the day before the date of receipt printed on the NOA1.

Give it approximately 2 weeks. They have to cash the checks first, then they would send the NOA's. 1 week is too soon to be worried.

what's E-notification form (G-1145)?? How come I don't remember I filled out anything like that? I know we did leave our cell phone numbers because they were required in the forms.

But E-notification form???

It's available on the USCIS website. You can relax, it's an optional form...ideally you fill it up and attach it to the front of each application you sent in...just so USCIS can confirm through e-mail or SMS that the files were received.

If you didn't attach one, then you just wait for them to mail you the NOA1.

After you receive the NOA1 for all the applications you sent in, then you can register on the USCIS website and sign up for updates that way.

what's GC?

where can i find the meaning for some of the acronyms/abbreviation in this site? THANKS

I think I am in the same dilemma as u are. Our lawyer just submitted our paperwork for AOS 9/14/10, I haven't heard anything yet since.

just wondering how many days does it take for them to give a notification of receipt and how many weeks before we can get my wife EAD. thanks

I believe GC stands for green card. I know that just waiting is not a very nice feeling but like the others said up there, waiting is a huge part of this process! Your lawyer should be able to tell you the normal wait periods, but I know you are probably anxious and I am in your position as well, having just submitted my AOS packet. Our current timeline is in my signature, if you want more details on timing.

Judging by our very short experience, the two week period that everyone mentions above appears to be holding true in our case. Quick question though - will the notices go to you or your lawyer? We did everything ourselves, but your lawyer might also be handling all the return receipts/notices from the USCIS.
