Respect for Other Beliefs

I am sure most if you feel this way already, but with the current rise religious tension in the news I just wanted to remind everyone of the importance of religious tolerance and respecting other beliefs. While it is unlikely every one can agree on everything, it is certainly reasonable that on VJ we ask that you give consideration and respect to each other, despite differences in religion. You can disagree but do it in a way that is respectful. Even if there are times where another person may abandon these principles I think it says more to your position if you stand strong and do not play into the trap by "sparing" back. This tolerance and respect benefits each of us here and the community as a whole.

Thank you again,

Ewok

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Now I'm hungry for a store bought cheeseburger.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Respect is not happening here.

I know. Do you recall calling me one of the 9/11 hi-jackers?

I've said more than once that folks who believe what the terrorists say about Islam are more like them than not.
I don't see the logic; please elaborate.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

I don't see the logic; please elaborate.

The logic has been demonstrated here for several days by folks like BY and his ilk. Those who repeat the terrorist line insist that they are representing Islam correctly; the terrorists would agree. The BY types insist that the entire Quran is defined by a few verses about how to conduct war. Like the extremists, they disregard with disdain, any directives about differing faiths learning to live together in God's name.

Like Muslim radicals, they demand that their beliefs are the correct ones, despite the fact that they know little or nothing about the Quran or the law. They make up what they need to "win" an argument, concentrate on the negative, and bully anyone who challenges them.

They don't believe that diversity works, but that one group must be superior to all others and dominant over the others. They have no respect for the effort it takes to learn Islam and discern between interpretations, nor can they admit that they don't know much, and they chaff at any reminder that this is so.

They keep their world paradigm small, limited and simplistic; our interpretation of Islam is the only acceptable one; peaceful Muslims are ignorant of true Islam. Most significantly, both spread the message of violent takeover, intolerance, threats, segregation and Us vs. Them as often as possible. They are more than a little disturbed.

Whether they realize it or not, parroting terrorists with no alternative view that encourages the kind of moderation required by God is what extremists respect and what they pray for. If you're doing the convincing for them among the people you encounter on a daily basis, they don't have to work as hard to create division and hate among neighbors. You can do it for them.

Religion isn't the problem. Zealots are. Zealots spike trees, bomb courthouses, and fly airplanes into skyscrapers.

Zealots are bred from religion. No religion, no zealots. Problem solved.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

From what I read of BY's post on this board, he mainly asked questions while posting facts. Some posters on here failed to answer BY's questions while ignoring the facts. Although a certain group of posters may find that antagonistic, I fail to see how BY's post incite hatred.
