Usually,

if the casefile is already at NVC, for NVC processing -

then it doesn't matter what the category is.

IF you've had no response after I-130 approval, relax a bit, that casefile is going to storage for a bit until the priority date becomes current - check the Visa Bulletin - October is up at http://www.travel.state.gov/visa/bulletin/bulletin_5145.html

If yer priority date is current, and yer certain the casefile is at NVC -

hey !

Call NVC, get a Human, and go forth - see http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/221785-ds-3032-slowdown/page__view__findpost__p__3560467 for some basic steps on slinging things into NVC based on payment portal status.

If NVC Human states yer ready to be processed - wei ! get some forms, read some instructions !

DS-230 - http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3190.html

I-864 - http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3730.html

An F1 visa is a student visa.

However, some Embassy websites will slightly confuse you for no reason. For example, the Niamey, Niger Embassy website talks about fiance visas with F1 in brackets.

The Lebanese Embassy...if you look under the non-immigrant section you will see that they have correctly identified a student visa as an F visa. However within the immigrant visa section they have chosen to divide up the family-based visas into F1, F2 etc. In fact these are more correctly referred to as FB-1, FB-2, etc.
