Medical Exam Appointment Date after Interview Date

We have just received Packet 4. To make an appointment for the Medical Exam, you must have your Interview Appointment Letter. My SO went to both examination hospitals and could not get an appointment date before our interview date. As a result , through no fault of our own, I blelieve we will get a blue slip for not having the medical exam results. Another glitch in the system? I feel sure that this has happened to other VJ members and would like to know if there is any remedy for this. I think I read something about this before, but can not find it again. Please tell me what will happen to us in this situation.

did u get ur interview letter or not?

Yes. We were going to try to get an appointment before we received it, but could not. We now have the letter, but her appointment dates are after the interview.

I have already purchased flight tickets to be with her for the interview and planned to stay long enough to bring her back with me.

It's always a risk to make the travel plans before having the visa in hand. But that is past now.

Things that can be done are:

1- Keep trying to get in for a medical prior to the interview. Has your fiance tried everything to get in? In Vietnam sometimes there are ways to get things done for a small amount of money.

2- Reschedule the interview for a date after the earliest medical exam date. Check with your airline to see what it will cost to adjust your ticket(s).

3- Go to the interview knowing that the visa cannot be granted until the medical is done. If there are no other issues with the interview then you will have a decent idea of when you may have the visa in hand and can depart. If there are other issues to be resolved that gives you the time to get that done and you can still travel back to the US together.

Call the Embassy and get an email confirmation for an interview. You should not have any problems in doing this. Print the confirmation email, have a copy of your NOA2, copy of your NVC letter, and passport. With is information, you should be able to enter the medical center and have your screening processed. What country are you applying? This worked for us.

Have her go to Cho Ray early in the morning and take some coffee money and it wont take but a day or two of doing that before one of the nurses agrees... Thuy will be doing this next week as her medical expired and they want a new one... if it takes a few days of doing this then so be it... any delay in the process can end up being a very long delay. Ronnie and Hang are a good example of what delayed medical results can cause... have her go to the hospital and be persistant

calling the consulate is not an option... they already have pkt 4 anyway...

Moving to VN regional as this applies to consulate specific issues

Thank you for the response. I was aware of the risk of making travel plans before getting the visa, but I was so excited to finally get an appointment date, I threw caution to the wind, and took a chance! But as you said, what's done is done.

Due to my employer, I have only a small window of time to be in VN. I had to beg just to get an extra week off, so I can only spend 2 weeks there.

Some friends of mine here in the States just returned from VN and told me that if you go to Cho Ray very early in the morning you can get in as a "walk-in" that day. I imagine a little coffee money would not hurt either.

We will keep trying your first idea as I would be afraid to reschedule anything with them! The third scenario is most likely to happen so my SO and her daughter will have to make the trip on their own. I will meet them at the POE. Once again, it is the wonderful VJ members as yourself that have made this ordeal possible to survive! Thank you all

if you bought your airline ticket through a travel agent, most likely, the ticket can be changed at little to no cost. i asked this before buying the ticket, and it seemed every airline allowed for a change at little to no cost. even if you didn't buy through a travel agent, call the airline and see what they say.

Thanks Dan, I did buy my tickets through a travel agent. The problem is my boss as far as extending my time away from work or changing my schedule.

Thuy went today in the afternoon first chance she had when she got to HCMC. She said she sat there in the chairs and that there were only 30 or so people getting medicals.. The woman was a real b1tch to her.. yelled at her for not calling first, and that she needed to come back end of october.. Thuy just sat there and did not say anything... after much time had passed and after everyone had gone in for the exams etc.. she approached the woman and appologized.. explained why she was there... that she did not want to lose more time and $ because of the flight etc.. the woman agreed to let her in and took the medical fee only.. no hoi lo at all... she will pick up the results tomorrow.. they said everything was fine...

IMO the woman working the desk is not the same as Thuy and others have dealt with in the past..... sounds like she part times at the consulate based on how she treated the people there and yelled at Thuy... amazing how power can affect people... with this woman it sounded like she likes the power so if acting like a wooped dog works so be it... She needs to emphasize that she got the letter so late from the consulate and that she does not want to trouble anyone or make the consulate wait and risk not being able to come be with you. blame it on the mail service.. "please help me. I dont want the consulate angry because I dont have this document from the hospital. I only just received the letter from the consulate so I can get the medical, The mail service lost the letter and I know there is not enough time to get the medical. I can wait or return anyday you decide. please help me"

Good job Thuy..way to go!!! I said it would work..all you need is lots of patience, persistence and some plea/persuasion will definitely go a long way...hehe. Sometimes no 'hoi lo' is even needed. I can understanding the amount of people they dealt with day day out. They have to do that to keep things in order, but deep down they are compasionate people too..Good to hear that Scott!!

Thanks Ronnie...She said there was a guy that was in the same situation as her that flew down from HaNoi and the woman refused to let him in.Thuy tried to help the guy along with her with no luck. after the woman put him out she went on to say aloud how stupid he was and that he did not deserve to come in today. she did not even know the guy.... the other woman that was there is the one that really helped Thuy... She said that lady was really nice and her plea to queen b1tch on behalf of Thuy was probably what did the trick... in any case.. it aint the same as it was 6 months ago...

So try to get anyone that is around on your side... every little bit there helps..
