Hello!

We just found out our interview date, and are wondering if anyone knows of any cheap hotels in London near the embassy, and also information on ones to avoid! Thanks so much!

Hi! There are a few suggestions here http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/144742-hotel-recomendations-for-london-interview-and-medical/page__p__2115542#entry2115542

This thread is a couple of years old so prices may be different now, we stayed at the Marble Arch Inn and found it fine for a one night stop over :)

When I was there in March we used www.activehotels.com and got a REALLY good rate on the Shaftesbury Premier Notting Hill. It's usually around £229 per night, but we got it for £79. The rooms were tiny (think small shoebox) but were very comfy and clean. They've got lots of other hotels in there in London as well.

It's surprising how many clean basic hotels there are in London for under a 100 quid...I've only had one bad experience, the Bluebell in Notting hill...don't do it! :help:

Heh, I used to live right across the street from the Marble Arch Inn. I've often wondered how many VJers I saw walking in and out of that place without even realising it. There's a great pub just across the road from it, Carpenters' Arms I think. The upstairs used to be cloaked in a fug of smoke before the new laws came in. Beer is still good (last went there September of last year). If you walk up Upper Berkeley Street to the corner with Edgware Road, the Lebanese restaurant there is pretty good AND you will get to walk past my old block of flats!

We stayed at the Millennium hotel in Mayfair, which is right on Grosvenor Square..in fact you could see the embassy from our room.

We got a great deal including breakfast , which between 2 of us only ended up costing 75 pounds each for the night..plus, they let us store our bags there the day after, so we could go sightseeing without having to cart them around with us.

We stayed at Lincoln House. They have a page for "specials" and if you ring them on the phone will negotiate a better price. I think we paid 90 quid for a large double. Smaller rooms for one person would be cheaper. Although I can't imagine anything smaller. It was tiny but had two beds, and a mini fridge and tea kettle. They also kept our luggage all day. We went back and retrieved our mobile phones and spent the day doing tourist things. So no need to leave things at Gould's. They have a free computer tucked under the stairs where you can post your good news to VJ. hahahaha

And several coaches leave London from bus stops on that street, so very easy departure if you happen to come into London on coach.

It's location in relation to the embassy and medical is on this map. You can zoom in or out to see things better. There's a key on the right.
