I notice from reading the timelines of others that some petitions are approved rather quickly and other are made to wait much longer. Is there any preference as to the country of the beneficiary or is it just luck of the draw?

For petition approval, in general NO. There seems to be increased times from certain countries which have ties to terrorism. Ukraine is not one of them.

The times vary because the priorities of the service centers vary. They do not have, for example, 3 people working on I-129f's all day, every day. They may focus on a particular visa type for a while and then switch back to another, depending on their workload and demand. Times have varied, since I have been a VJ member from 30 days (sometimes less)to 6 months for processing K-1s. It all depends how you hit the line. Kind of like asking how long you will have to wait in line at the bank before you get there. Who knows? Sometimes CSC has been faster, sometimes VSC and now we have this new system where they are farming out the petitions to whichever center can meet the demand better. Who knows how that will work.

After petition approval it goes to NVC and this can take 1-8 weeks, then another 2-3 weeks to get into the consulate system. From there the interview times vary by consulate. Ukraine is a fast one. Interview lead times in the last two years have varied from 4 days to 2 months, fast by any standard. Some consulates have 6 month + lead times for interviews, PLUS in Kiev you do not have to wiat for packet 3 and you do not have to send back packet 3. Just get all your interview documents ready (now if you want) and then when the petition is sent call and make your appointment.

Finacees from Ukraine tend to get HERE, in the USA, faster than many other countries, not because USCIS processes the petition faster but because the consulate processes the visas fast.

LotO,

Thanks for the guide. I have my I-864 prepared and waiting for a couple documents this would complete my AOS packet except for the bar code. I am using assets and not income. Who prepares the IV packet and sends it in, the petitioner or beneficiary? How can I find out how long the police certificate is good for in Ukraine?

If you are using asset:

Home, Net equity - Appraisal value minus the mortgage.

Cash or Bank Deposit - Last 12 months statements

Also, if you're USC, 33% of the asset will be considered to verify against the poverty line

Before IV packet, there is a form DS-3032 - choice of agent. Your wife will make you as the agent. Then, your wife will send all her documents including DS-230 to you and you will forward them to NVC.

Reg: PCC validity, please send an email to the U.S Consulate in Ukraine.

Police Records - Ukraine

Records are available. Police and prison records are kept by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Security Service of Ukraine. Immigrant visa applicants from Ukraine obtain police certificates at their local OVIRs (Office of Visas and Registration). Applicants outside Ukraine have to apply for police certificates through the nearest Ukrainian Embassy or Consulate.

Kiev no longer requires translations for documents in Ukrainian or Russian, so that is good.

You can get a police certificate, it is valid for one year from issuance. Make sure you have a copy of her birth certificate, if she doesn't have one, get it now. Copies of all her immunization records to take to the medical exam. Copies of marriage and divorce certificates (if any) Basically, go to the Kiev consulate website, download the checklist for K1s and start gathering the items listed. Have them all ready by the time you get your NOA2 and you will be way ahead of the game.

If she has any children, get the necessary letters from the father allowing them to relocate to the USA. You can wait to prepare the I-134 until at least 60 days before the interview. Gather your evidence of relationship. you may as well make a folder for it now and start organizing and collecting it.

Gary,

I think Lucky Jimmy is following IR1/CR1 path, not a K1 path. Yes, for K1 it is I-134, but for IR1/CR1, it is I-864.

I am on the IR1/CR1 path. it seems like very similar documents. should my wife have these documents in her possession or should I have them so that I can send the docs to the NVC?

I have done a lot of reading and have yet to understand exactly what I should do. I just want to make the process move as quickly as possible. I am like everyone else here, I miss my loved one.
