K-1 Schedule October Interviews whil CR-1 Wait????

I do not consider engagements any less important - my frustration is directed toward the way this system is set up, NOT at the K-1's on here. You guys are the lucky ones as far as a quicker process.

We thought of going K-1, but my husband's kids live in Victoria and he picks them up every two weeks for a 2 day visit. With the K-1 he couldn't have seen them for maybe 3 months until AP was approved. His ex would never have taken the time to bring them to him here. His daughter is disabled with a seizure disorder, so it's important that one of her parents be with her and it would have been difficult for me to pick them up on Friday's in Canada after work at the ferry and make the 8 hour round trip on Sunday's to take the kids home crossing the border and taking the ferry to the island and back.

We knew and understood the IR1/CR1 process would take a year to do and I have no problem with that but I just don't see why it's so much longer than the K-1 process - that's all.

I think you have more than a fair case for expedite considering the medical issues you mention in your post. I have read what USCIS stipulates as reasoning for an expedite but I've seen others on here get them for far far less...I think it's an avenue worth pursuing especially considering your circumstances.

I really do hope you all hear something soon, i have seen countless posts on VJ that are riddled with frustration with regards to this entire process, and Montreal doesn't make it any easier.

The Montreal consulate does have a number that you can call; And you can get a live person on the phone, the problem lay in the fact that the option that you choose to actually speak to a live person is not the most attractive.

i've tried three times to get a live person using this number - no dice...

I've gotten through once...........

I will NEVER understand why Vancouver is unable to pick up some of the slack here and get these Visa's through.

was that recently? i hate doing it, but i don't know any other options here..i feel sick everything i call and press that option..

a couple of weeks ago, it took a few tries

This process DEFINATELY has to be redefined somehow.

yeah, i just got through. she asked if this was concerning a death, when i said no

she said, you have to go through other options, i said could you please tell me what those options are..and she hung up on me.

In answer to this, its mainly because you get your ability to cross back and forth freely, and and immediate Green Card upon activating your VISA, the K-1s have about a 9 month wait to get their VISA, then another 3-5 month wait to obtain these priveledges through EAD, AP, and AOS process, as well as paying yet MORE fees to get them. Factoring that in, the CR-1 is actually faster overall, as well as cheaper.

I agree it has nothing to do with the K1's. It is just the process. The long wait has been slot longer than usual and I feel that it would seem that if they did this in order of completion regardless of marriage or fiancé that would make more sense ;)

It seems to me that things haven't changed that much. The k-1 group still needs to wait for their packet four before they can schedule their interview. If I'm not mistaken the packet four used to come with a pre-assigned date. So it's not really an issue of the k-1's getting interviews faster it is just that they get to pick their specific day of the month following their packet four.

Montreal has caught up a lot faster with the k-1's compared with the cr-1 though. Whatever the situation it still really sucks for all of us right now.

i know - it's ridiculous that we all have to deal with Montreal. Especially those of us living in Vancouver

I think the question here is, WHO makes the decisions for how MTL is handling things? Does anyone know? Who can we send an e-mail to or and ask for change? Someone must be making these decisions and be held responsible.
