I just sent in our I-129F package today. I am excited and a little nervous to finally get this process started. I have been doing a lot of research on this site and with the USCIS for several months. Now that we feel more informed and as comfortable with the process as possible, we signed up for VJ to track our progress.

I mailed in our package using USPS Priority Mail with Delivery Confirmation to the Dallas Lockbox. Since I am in Florida it should get forwarded to the Vermont Service Center.

Because Japan is a low fraud country, I hope it goes quickly and smoothly. However, I am not counting on it.

Well congratulations on your first step. Watch for your Notice of Action (NOA1) in a couple of weeks. If you get a Request for Evidence (RFE) respond as soon as possible. Make sure you include the case number they assigned to you and include all documents they request (if any) in your response. Any delays on your part will delay the overall time line.

Next, be patient. You will see little or no action for several months until it gets going, so relax. Use this time to get your home prepared, find stores that carry products from your fiance(ee)'s country as a way of making him/her feel more at home. If you meet other couples like yourself, start forming friendly relationships, but make sure this is a happily married couple.

The busier you keep yourself, the faster the time will go by. Tell your SO the same thing.

Finally, start saving as much money as you can. This is just the first step and each additional step will cost you more money.

Again, congratulations.

Wow, I have to say I'm impressed. I loved what you posted. We filed our petition on Sept. 7, 2010 and this post... is actually helpful. I already feel so relaxed. ;)

Best of luck and welcome to the waiting game!

As the other VJ member said, make sure to have LOTS of patience and keep on collecting evidence of your relationship. Also, keep on working and saving money because it is an expensive process!

Congratulations on getting things rolling, si man.

One specific thing to do is to allocate $1,010 for AOS/EAD/AP (a combined later step) now. Put the funds in a special account and consider it 100% untouchable. One of the most short-sighted things that anyone could do is to let their newly arrived loved one fall out of legal status because "I didn't have the money to file for AOS after we got married."

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Hello,

I am a new member to this sight. I have used it for many months of research as well. We also just filed our papers. They were received in Texas on the 30th of August and re-routed to the Vermont Service Center. They were received there on September 2nd and I was notified by text/e-mail on September 3rd. I received my NOA1 yesterday in the mail! Now I guess it is just a waiting game. I am a little unsure of what to do next and how best to prepare. Any suggestions? I am also wondering if anybody else is trying to plan a wedding and how they are going about it. I am having a hard time trying to plan anything without any kind of certainty about the month that my fiance will arrive.
