My fiancé has to have a German police certificate translated. Does the Embassy have strict regulations on what qualifies something as a "certified translation"? Does anyone have any suggested translation companies in England?

Thanks so much for any help/sugguestions/advice. :help:

From:

http://london.usemba..._documents.html (scroll ALLLLLLLLL the way down)

Translations: All documents not in English must be accompanied by certified English translations. The translation must include a statement signed by the translator that state that the translation is accurate, and sworn to before a Notary Public.

Sorry, any suggestions I could make for translation services would be pasted from a google search anyway.

I don't know anything about getting docs translated...but here...got this from doing a quick google http://london.usembassy.gov/interview_documents.html

If people aren't replying it is either because they don't know the answer or it's pretty simple to figure out....or maybe you are just getting ignored on purpose.

I think it's a placement issue... here we have two almost simultaneous answers within 15 minutes in the UK forum. I rarely go to the Consulate forum because most London questions get asked here. I sometimes look in the portal to catch other UK posts, but just hadn't done it since yesterday afternoon...

Thanks guys.. I appreciate the response. I had previously googled all this and got the same result as you. The Embassy explanation just seemed a little vague to me. Oh, well..

I interpret it to mean that they are not that restrictive in what they accept. I would expect 3 pieces of paper. The original German document, the translation, and the statement from the translator which certifies that it is a true translation. The third page when signed under the "sworn" statement that the translation is true must be notarized.

The absolute worst case is that at the interview the person says it's not good enough. Then the beneficiary will be standing right in front of a live person and can ask specifically what is required and what is deficient, and correct that. Just a few days delay. I know it sounds bad, but it is totally manageable. Not worth panicking, promise!

Sorry if I sounded needy, honest. The thing is we had our interview last Wednesday and was told we needed this document to get the approval. We asked what was required and they gave us a print out of the same information that we all have googled. They really gave no explination of things. I worry about sending in the wrong thing because I am tired of the "one step forward two steps back" dance we get from the Embassy. I just want to get this right. Thanks so much for all your help. I think we are going to do some calling to companies in Manchester that do translations. I was hoping someone from the UK forum had some experience in getting docs translated. I am just ready for this to be over and start my life with my love. --- Thanks again, Heather
