Good afternoon,

I have 2 quick question2, just want to confirm something. My situation is, that I am a CDN citzen currently residing in Canada. My US citizen mother filed I-130, which was approved, and the case is sitting at NVC pending an immigrant visa.

Question 1: If the interview goes smoothtly and all information needed is produced, is the immigrant visa granted on the spot?

Question 2: In order to stay on track and not go afoul of immigration law, once I have the immigrant visa, then do I need to begin residing permanently in the US within 6 months?

thanks.

Answer 1) You may or may not get visa on the spot after interview. Presently there are rare cases where visa was issued immediately after interview. Almost 99.99% goes into adminitrative processing which takes from a month to 2 years.

Answer 2) After you are issued the visa, the validity of the visa is 6 months and you need to enter into USA before expiry of the visa.
