; OH MY!!

I read stories/topics on this website about people having phone records proving that they have had contact while they were apart from each other. Though, they use these phone records as proof, but my problem is...............

.... is that me and my fiance don't have phone records :( !!!

Everytime I go back to Holland, we continue having contact through MSN Messenger. We use (read: FREE) MSN video conversation. This is a FREE service, using our webcams and microphones.

It really worries me not having these records, how are we suppose to proof the USCIS/Embassy/whoever that we still talk on a daily basis?

Kind regards,

Channah

You can black out any private details of the chats with black marker or ink pen, or even with a Paint program prior to printing.

We have tons of phone logs from Vonage, but there are many people who do the same as you. With all of the visa fees, how can they expect us to pay HUGE phone bills as well when there are FREE services, like MSN, Yahoo, etc.?

In MSN Messenger you can save the history of your conversations and I imagine that the MSN video conversation would have a similar feature through which you could save the video conversation history (date and times). Better to start saving this evidence now than not to have it at all!

Best wishes :)

If you're thinking that offering only one proof of your ongoing relationship to a complete stranger, meaning the Embassy officer who will be reviewing your case and then conducting the interview and then making a subjective decision, may not be enough proof of a real relationship, then you are thinking correctly.

Since you have to prove your relationship to a complete stranger, it made sense to me and my wife to purposefully generate all sorts of evidence using of methods.......emails, psot cards, letters, gifts, Skype calls, SMS messages, phone calls with phone logs, etc. etc.

Generate more evidence on purpose....write some love letters....do whatever you need to do.

Pretend that you if you sent the package to me that I, without even meeting you, would look at it and say, Wow these guys have a real relationship.

It's not really that hard to do.

we did not attach phone records with the petition. You have to start to gather "documents proof of having met your fiance(e) within two years" consider information that "factually" places where you two have been together: items such as dated photographs, airlines tickets/stubs (proving you boarded) to his/her country (home city), etc.. You should also consider submitting information that validates your relationship which will help to understand the scope of your relationship and acts as secondary evidence (photos together, chats, dated emails -edit out personal items first-)

We can all make a difference. Please recycle

hi! we use skype to talk every day and i decided i should start capturing some screenshots to prove this. are you referring to another IM/video chat program that displays the time and date of the chat? i do not see the date being displayed during a skype video chat, just when we IM using skype. i doubt they will accept a date being hand entered by paint or word. thoughts?

Prt Scr + Ctrl V in MS Paint = dated screenshot of your webchat.

Screen shots work with any program. On the bottom right of your computer screen you should find the time. Float your mouse over it so the date is displayed. Prt Scr, and now all your screenshots are time stamped.

Good idea but know that I can Photoshop in any date I want. Alone, these are worthless, but combined with a bunch of other types of evidence, they all help tell the story.

You want to tell your story or paint your picture. This shouldn't be that hard to figure out.

What you want to provide is evidence of a relationship of the type that leads to marriage and is not based primarily on immigration benefits. There IS NO specific need for phone records. Your communications should be recorded or documented in some way that you can show that they existed, a "chat log" or "Skype log" etc., is fine. The type of evidence presented is not nearly as important as the fact that there is evidence that a relationship exists.

Dutchess:

If you want phone records as well as Skype chats etc., all you have to do is call each other once a week, say "I LOVE YOU" and hang up! The person picks up the phone, you're charged whatever the international rate is (I have pay a few dollars extra a month for calls to the UK to be $.08 a minute), and BAM, you have VERY cheap phone records.

Rob can call me for an hour at a time for free based on his phone plan. You would be amazed at the options!

Gary is correct though...phone records are examples and NOT requirements.
