What is interesting about this clip... besides the Historic lesson is the subtle bit of history in the telling of this story on PBS.

The reason PBS would even run such a story in that day was to get a dig in against R.Reagan as I think the Iran COntra situation was unfolding at that time.

it seems all these Muslim dominant countries with laws that mimic many Islamic laws and sentencing have at one time or another through out history turned on themselves.

with that said So did most western European countries less so in the recent century can not be said for the muslim dominant countries o fthe ME.

if you need evidence of the volatile ME then we cna provide it; whether it is by political in nature or religeon in nature.

you're right, it's offensive and I shouldn't have degraded myself to the level of the original discussion. But you see that's what statements shot out blindly create, more misunderstandings. As for examples I think people should broaden their vision of the world. I'm American (nothing Middle Eastern in me) and have visited the ME many times. It's a beautiful region with a rich culture. Perhaps its' only cancer is Israel. But then who in the US would dare question Israel's violent (not simply volatile) nature ? your televised 'facts' about the ME being a volatile place won't validate this. At least not for people who have been there, seen the facts on the ground, met it's people, and married someone from there.

you can't isolate some videos and incidents, take them out of context then make an informed and intelligent statement. you would've failed at your schooling if you did that. But we seem to think we can do it in real life, and any standards we've acquired about making a 'valid' argument just go right out the window.
