Hope someone can help me out. Here is my current status.

I received permanent residency in July of 2004...this just after 2 years of being married. I got the 2 year conditional card - long story behind this.

In April of this year I applied to have conditions removed through Nebraska. I received a letter back basically stating that I was supposed to have received the 10 year card not the 2 year so I filled out the I-90 to have it corrected and sent my original greencard back to Nebraska (along with my son's). Nebraska received our greencards June 13th. So far no corrected cards in return.

In the meantime I have applied for work through a temp agency. Just did this online about 1/3 hour ago. I didn't think they would be so fast in responding to me however I'm asked to come into this agency on Monday for testing and to bring proof that I'm legal to work in the U.S.

Our office (Boise, Idaho) does not stamp passports for extensions. They issue temp cards only which means my son and I have to have passport photos taken for this. Ok so I think I answered my own question - I would have to go to the Boise office tomorrow and hopefully they will do our cards up right away. Is there any way around this otherwise? I have only copies of me and my son's greencards.

I was stupid thinking that I would be buying a few days time through the temp agency with having to show eligibility. For all I know, they may not even want me.

Thanks for any advice.

baaah!

How you stay sane through this, I will never know. Find the Director of that office if you can--I had coffee yesterday with our fella and I can tell you, he has the power to set all these local "policies".

If they do not want to produce a "temporary green card" (WTH!) for you while you wait, explain that they can simply *stamp your passport with evidence of your PR status*. I would think that is much simpler. Perhaps explaining clearly that *you have been a PR for over two years* and do not have satisfactory evidence of it (and never had) due to *no fault of your own*.

This is not an extension, this is a legal substitue for the accurate document that *they* have been unable to produce for the past two years. You have been an IR-1 from Day One and they admit it. Fine, now give you the damn evidence of it. Explain that you have an employment opportunity, which is a miracle in your local economy (and they know it) and this is not a case of "I just want it". If they ####### on you again, ask to speak to the manager, and then the Director and ask what solution *they* propose as you do not have the *legally required* evidence of your status to carry around with you. (When we went in for the stamp to tide us over while the 10 year card was being produced, we were reminded that he had to carry the pport in lieu of the green card until he got the new card--law quote on the Now that you are a PR page at uscis.gov)

I swear, do they not understand plain English over there? I would be *so* postal on them by now, despite all the sugar I've told you to swallow over it. :)

My first step in job hunting process was to apply for my SSN. Have you done that??

Sure do. I have been in the U.S. since June 2002. I got my SSN back in September 2002.

Thanks so much for your post here. I've absorbed everything you have said and will let you know of the outcome. It's been quite the ride here.

Show them your *unrestricted* driver's license and your *unrestricted* Social Security Card.

Stupid me never had that line taken off the SS card.

Unfortunately I have that line "Valid for work only with INS authorization" still on my card. Yeah yeah that should have been taken off once I got the greencard back in July 2004.
